I am the USC. I will be going to Beijing China to marry my fiancee, and so we are making the preparations now. I like to ask anyone with experience with the Marriageability Affidavit. I know I must go to the Embassy in person to get the affidavit, no problem. The appointment book is not yet open for when I will be there (April). But while I wait my questions are:

1. Do I take home the affidavit the same day I sign it and the VO notarizes it?

2. Does it have to be translated to Chinese for the Chinese civil affairs office?

I will take along to the embassy my fiancee's ID, my passport, and my prior divorce certificate. My fiancee is concerned about any delay with the Marriageability affidavit as we plan to marry 2 days later, IF I have the affidavit.

Thanks for your help.

Ok first of all you can the marriageability certificate at the Chinese Embassy in your district by mailing it to them. I in Ohio so I mailed mine to NY. Anyway you will want to write a marriage ability certificate. Get a copy of your divorce decree. You will need to have your signature notarized. Then the county notarizes that and then your state notarizes the county. Then you mail all that off to Chinese Embassy I think it's like $40.00 bucks and expediting is another 20? I did all that in one day I had to go downtown. If you don't live in larger city you may have to mail it in. I don't know about getting that done in Beijing. I did not want to risk getting to China to find out I needed some other paper I didn't have and then be denied the certificate. The certificate you are getting is from the Chinese Govt. If you have about a month you can do it here. You can find the Marriage certificate form on here and print it out. After that get your signature notarized by a notary in your county. The county will then notarize the notary signature. Then the state will notarize the counties. Ridiculous, but they are looking for the state seal on your paperwork.

1.yes

2.yes (but this varies, find out in her hukuo city, first, if they accept english document or not - and if not, inquire for which office to use in her hukuo city for translation)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
