I believe the OP is referring to the I-130 petition, in which case online payment is not an option. As inky posted a personal cheque is a good idea since you can see when it has cleared your account.

I sent personal check.. No idea why online payment, I can't see how the process is sped up.. They check the document and the correct fee at the same time I assume

The FEE is removed before anyone even looks at the documents and it is put into a safe, it is cashed when an armor truck arrives to pick up a large batch and the NOA1 is sent. The people who go through your files never see the check.
