Meeting the Affidavit of Support Requirement

My wife and I are leaving outside of US currently. She is a USA citizen. We plan to move to US to reside and she will be sponsoring me for the IR-1 application. My concern is on Affidavit of Support. My wife is a full time housewife taking care of our 2 children. Obviously she has no income at this time. I will need to quit my job when the IR-1 is approved and after we arrived in US. That means we will have no income until one of us find a job in US. In this case, how can i meet the income requirement stated in Affidavit of Support? We have some cash savings, stock and a house we plan to sell when we move to US. Can these be used to meet the income requirement?

Does anyone face the same problem or have answer to these questions?

Thanks

I reckon you'll need a co-sponsor..

We had the same problem, as do most DCF couples who live abroad together (check out the special DCF forum here if you plan to file directly with the embassy!). We sponsored on assets- a house and bank account in the USA. If you are planning on doing the same, you will need at least three times the 125% income poverty level- for a four person household, that is $27'562 x3= $83'000. The assets must be easily liquidated without undue hardship (so savings account or similar is best, a family's only car probably won't count), and many embassies require the assets to be US based.

Your other option- the one most DCFers take- is to have a co-sponsor; a US based friend or family member who will stand guarantoor for the new immigrant.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
