I came to the US when I was 6. My parents dumped me off at the local public school. I spoke three words but in a few months had caught on. They had me attend some built in ESL 1 hour session everyday, but I quit that in a year or so because it was so boring.

How old is the child in question?

Most areas have free ESL classes. The want to get them acclimated and paying taxes. The ones I have taken my former fiancee to were for adults but I am sure they are available for kids too.

Anything from the government, that's free...... is always top notch!

(Just like public school! Really though, "dumping" the kid off at the front door of the local school is about the best thing for their language development. This is what linguists call "immersion" into the target language, and the fact is, kids, when immersed into the target language can converse fluently in about a quarter of the time it takes adults. They're like little sponges!)
