Sending back GST payments

Hi guys,

I couldn't find any recent posts on this but I'm just wondering if anyone knows where to send back a cheque for GST? I get them direct deposit and it was placed in my Canadian bank account. I called to let them know of the error and to update their system again, since I told them ahead of time anyways, and the man on the other end told me to send a cheque to 85 Heron St. in Ottawa. I google it afterwards and that doesn't appear to be an actual place. Any ideas where I would send the cheque I write? And who I would make it out to?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I never thought I'd see the day where I'm looking forward to dealing with the IRS rather than CRA!!

The address was to somewhere in Quebec, I will look and see if I can find it again.

I figured they weren't reading my letters until I got a GST check in the mail at my US address, I never gave them my address here it was just on the return address part. I guess they desided to update it on their own from the return address and keep sending the stupid things to me, then they started sending me things saying I owed them over 100$ for cashing the GST checks I never cashed a single one and had sent them ALL back the day after I got them lol Had to call 3 more times before I got someone on the phone who actually tried to help me, the lady found all the checked/letters to be sitting in their mail room ~ they never put the checks back into their accounts just left them sitting there in the mail room! She fixed it on her computer thingy and I got a letter from them again 5 months after that saying I didn't owe them any money. Took me quite a few months to get it all resolved. Hope you guys have a better/faster time fixing it.

I ranted about this 2 years ago - I got GST and baby bonus payments for a long time and of course had to pay them back - it was so hilarious that they were mailing the notices to my US address - you'd think they'd have a check in place...hey - this person has a US address...we should check this out before we send them more money.

I actually never had any trouble reaching the office...I paid them back by US international money order.

Hello, not sure if this will be of any help or not but, I moved to the states in Sept. and called the CRA to cancel my GST and HST payments and to change my home address. They had already printed out the GST check for Oct. so I was going to have to send it back to them. The person I talked to said once I got the check to send it back with a letter stating I’m no longer eligible for GST and HST payments and the date I had moved to the U.S. Once I returned the check with letter, they sent me a letter notice saying I was no longer entitled for GST and HST checks.

The address they gave me was:

Winnipeg Tax Center

66 Stapon Rd.

Winnipeg MB

R3C 3M2

This was for the original check they had sent to me though, not sure if you can send a owing check to them.

The letter I got from CRA was telling me to send the checks or payments back to the CRA at Quebec address I posted above.

Yeah this happened to me as well. Thankfully I didn't have them direct deposited, but I was sent 3 checks directly to my US address. I sent them all back, and then got a letter in the mail from CRA saying I owed them money. An angry phone call took care of that... But I sent mine back to the Quebec address Inky posted.

I plan on filing my Canadian taxes for 2010 this year. Do I need to pay back the GST Refund?

if you are moving to the US this year I just wouldn't claim the GST on your taxes ....

Even if I file my 2010 taxes?

Yes. If you file your 2010 taxes, just don't tick off the box that says you are applying for the GST credit, or they will send it to you and you will be required to send it back/refund it all next tax time again.

Immediately - once you are a non resident of Canada, you are no longer entitled to GST refunds - which ones are you asking if you have to pay back? (ssomehow that was really bad english - ignore that)
