Questions about the interview.

We've just gotten the letter telling us to book our appointment, and I have a few questions.

1. Is that the appointment letter I'm supposed to bring with me to the interview? From the sounds of it you'd think it would have the actual appointment time/date on it, but we booked that online. Should I print off the confirmation e-mail too?

2. One of the forms I sent in said it must include my birth certificate, police check, etc., so I sent in the originals with it. But it says I need the originals for my interview as well. Was that completely stupid of me? Are they going to send that back to me? My police check took 5 weeks, I don't have time to get another, and I really don't want to be screwed. I have copies, but will that be enough for the interview?

3. If anyone has gone through the Montreal consulate, how long after being approved does it actually take to be able to enter the US? My fiance can only get a limited amount of time off work, and if we can have a rough estimate, it would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance for any advice or any directions to somewhere I can find the answers.

1. Print off the confirmation page with the exact date and time of the interview. This will be helpful at the consulate.

2. Who did you send that stuff to? You should get it back at the interview, but you may have to ask

3. It took about 7 days from my approval to get my visa. I took another 2 weeks to pack up my stuff and move. You do not have to move with your fiance, you may move down there when you are ready. Although I understand why you would want to travel with him

Good luck

I sent it to the Consulate in Montreal with my packet 4 stuff. The one form said I needed to file it with my birth certificate and police check, but I wasn't sure about all the other things required, so I just sent it all (after making copies) to be sure : /

Oh, and the reason I'm moving with him is because I don't own my car, and he's coming to pick me up and move all my stuff down. He wants to get to see all my family before we have to wait for my green card.

Thank you!

I'm sure it will be fine that you send your originals to the consulate, I did not to the K-1 route so you may want to post this on the canada forum for verification

You may ask that your visa be issued for pick-up, however, some of had luck with this, others have not. It is up to the CO you get on the day of the interview. Assuming all goes well (which it doesn't always) you can probably move within 10 days or so after the interview

GOod luck

CONGRATS! When was your NOA1 date?

I'm not sure. I got the go ahead to file on my end (Packet 3?) on September 17th, about 3 months after we filed. I had to wait a while for my background check, sent in my stuff on November 26th, and this letter is marked as December 13th. Fast! My interview is scheduled for January 21st.
