Hi my fiance was wondering, what papers does the embassy keep? We were told by a friend to make

photocopies of everything and to give the embassy the photo copies to put in their file system... else the embassy will keep the real ones... Is this true? Should my Fiance make duplicates of pictures letters emails etc? Do they want all the originals or does photo copies work? We are still waiting for packet 4 but, very soon that will be coming.. We also our using a co sponser.. Do we need to show the embassy his or her passport? My boss who is my co sponser wrote a letter stating how long I been working for him.. but due to going to India twice in the same year I don't have enough money in my bank account.. SO my boss is co sponsering for us. Do I need to send my fiance the original letters or can I just send him photo copies.

He is talking about duplicating everything we have as proof of evidence will the embassy wish to keep our evidence?

2450 emails and over 100 photos plus 40 letters..

For our wedding its going to be a small wedding but I did send the letter of intent had it notarize and I did send some of the guest list...

Is there anything I am missing?

In Dublin embassy they photocopied my birth certificate and returned the original to me. They kept the originals of police certificates, statement from my fiancee's employer and her pay stubs, though.

Woah! That's a lot! Do you think it's really needed to have that much? Sometimes less is more and quantity doesn't always mean quality (in the sense that you should focus on providing evidence of the relationship itself rather than of communicating with your fiance). I guess you could narrow it down a bit, selecting 1 or 2 e-mails/letters for each month. And have someone proof read them for you, to make sure their content's appropriate - wouldn't rise any doubts as per your relationship.

From the K1 guide: "Copies of phone bills, cell phone bills, emails (you can edit personal info with a marker), letters (edit personal info also), stamps on the letters (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present." - bolded my me.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

Good point Mew. The evidence should/could also be a variety of things such as pics, postcards, giftcards, emails, chat sessions, phone bills, boarding passes, receipts, and letters. I'm assembling some evidence right now actually. I plan on having about 5 of each ready for the interview but plan on bringing the majority of my pics. For pics, I have them already saved on my pc, so I'm not bringing copies. For stuff like boarding passes, phone bills and receipts, I'm bringing them all. (only about 4-5 each anyway) Think of it this way, if you are bringing something to the interview and you don't want to worry if they require the original or not, just copy it. It is very wise to do so, IMO. Who knows if it may be required later in the process.

Christina -- the embassy website (whichever one in India you are going through) has explicit instructions as to what is required, how many copies etc. Please refer to that. Which embassy are you going through? I can help you look.

I am going through new delhi opps sorry forgot to mention that in my I-129F packet we sent in movies tickets resturant tickets, train tickets and airplane tickets along with other stuff so they already seen all that do we need to resubmit the evidence again? I been told that our I-129F file has been sent to the embassy and so they should have a copy of everything we sent with the 1-129F petition...

We don't have cell phone bills because over in India its kind of hard for my fiance to get and when he used to call me so much he burned the bills so his brother could not see.. The way I call is through speedy pin but that only shows I am buying phone cards for India not who I am calling so I do not think that will work either... We mostly talk on yahoo messenger and rediff.. 6:00a.m. through 8:30a.m. then go to work after I get off work 5:00p.m. until 10:30p.m. mon-sunday besides friday at night its 5:00p.m. until 1:00a.m. and saturday its all night 5:00p.m. until 6:00a.m. the next morning should I copy all the conversations?

No need to submit each and every chat log. Pick 1 or 2 for each month, making sure that by reading them the consular office would see that you're in a legit relationship. Black out those parts that are either too personal or inappropriate and have someone proof read them for you.

As for the evidence you've already sent out, I guess it couldn't hurt to have copies of those too. Add a few more pictures that you haven't sent out yet.

Is there a way for your fiance to obtain copies of his phone bills? Many companies have the bill available online - we've printed out my fiance's phone bills from the carrier website.

Chris,

As you know, my fiance also went thru New Delhi Embassy. And the documents he took with him was I-134, my Job Letter, 1040 and my W2's ( 2003-2005), but they only wanted to see the current year (2005). so he gave them those. and out of all those only the 1040 and W2's were photocopied. He also had few pictures of us, copy of my passport pages, 3 months phone logs, and 2-3 emails. The CO didn't want to see any of these. He just asked him few questions like, HOW DID WE MEET? WHEN DID WE MEET? WHY DID WE NOT GET MARRIED IN THOSE 2 YEARS...(WE GOT ENGAGED IN MAY 2004). WHO ALL ARE IN MY FAMILY. AND THAT WAS IT. THE CO WASN'T EVEN ASKING ANYTHING.... HE WAS JUST FLIPPING THRU MY DOCUMENTS... AND MY FIANCE GOT SO COMFY WITH HIM THAT HE JUST KEPT ON TALKING TO HIM LIKE HOW WE MET THRU EACHOTHER COUSINS... (LONG STORY) DON'T WANNA BORE YOU WITH IT. SO, YOU GUYZ JUST NEED TO STAY RELAX.... DON'T WORRY TOO MUCH.... WORRYING TOO MUCH SOMETIMES MAKE THINGS WORSE. IF YOU NEED ANY HELP YOU KNOW I AM ALWAYS THERE. NOW DO THE DANCE WITH ME :P:dance:

Our interview was successful, I brought all of the docs previously mentioned in post 4.

Originals they kept:

I-134 form

Our last approval notice (recalled case) - They took this because our case was recalled and there were some processing holdups and confusion at the consulate. We also had a copy but I'm not sure if my fiancee offered it.

Copies of docs they kept:

My tax return for the current year

Pay stubs

Employment letter

Bank letter

Life insurance info

Retirement acct. info

All of the above docs were put in with the visa packet "mystery envelope" that was handed to my fiancee after the interview. Also included in the envelope were the docs she had to fill out for the interview along with the consulate's docs that related to the interview.

Being prepared with our docs and copies really saved us with our case. It actually enabled us to show evidence that backed up our contention that the consulate urged us to come to the interview even though the namecheck had not been started yet. Making copies and being organized was the key to success here.

The next step will also be much easier due to the fact that we have already assembled the majority of the docs required for the I-864 and other future docs.

Christina,

My wife went through New Delhi Embassy for K3 in Apr. She had everything the embassy's website suggests and some more with her. They didn't ask for much and only kept copy of 1040 and original W2 for 2005, original I-134 and letter certifying my employment.

Good luck.
