Hey all,

Anyone have a method of taking iPhone texts and moving them onto say a pdf, Word, excel, or other printable file?

I text my wife several times a day and I have texted her every day since we met. These texts are ALL still on my phone, and I wanted to know if anyone knew of a way for me to download them so I can use them as bonafide evidence of the relationship.

Thanks!

It is easy with SMSexport though a little complicated at first. It costs $4.00 in itunes but you need to buy it through itunes on your computer. Also you need to download a new program from your computer called iPhoneSMS from same company.

What you do is a backup in itunes. You can then turn it off. Then you go open iPhoneSMS. It will show chats in small preview window. If you installed SMSexport via phone you will not be able to click export button. Don't worry though. You can reinstall through itunes on computer for free. They will not recharge you.

You will be given options on how you want to save. Text, HTML, Excel (CSV), and something else. I save mine in excel so I can sort them.

The first time I did it the system kept locking up. Well I had 17,000 text messages so it it takes the system a while. Just let it take a while and it will eventually open up a pane asking where you want to save it.

It doesn't appear to sync, not sure if I can do something with itunes so the second time I went to save stuff I had all the messages again.

Here is how an entry looks:

1909#######,2009-10-23 14:57:50,"Haha",out

The "out" at the end means I sent the message

Iphone allows you to send them to an email address and from there you can print or do what ever you want

The only problem with doing it that way is that it doesn't show phone number or time/date sent.

Might not matter for visa evidence. I needed it for another reason which required proof of caller and date/time message sent/received.

If you're jailbroken then in Cydia find SMS2Mail, it allows you to send some or all texts to your e-mail as either a CSV (Comma Delimited) or plain text file. It does preserve all date/time stamps, phone numbers and if the text was sent or received.

BTW, it's free and easy to use.

Great advice guys. I'm not jailbroken so there goes that idea. I'll give it a shot Atencio.
