That's a question for the insurance companies.

My husband and I were married in January 2009, but did not move to the US till October 2009. When we tried to get added to his health insurance, they told us to wait for open enrollment, which is every August. If we presented them our marriage certificate within 30 days of getting married, they would have added me, even without a SSN...but the thing is we waited, because I didn't want my husband paying for insurance payments when our daughter and I could not be in the US to use the benefits.

Have your future wife ask her insurance companies what their policies/rules are for adding spouses who are still outside the US...SSN shouldn't be a requirement.

Absolutely correct. I, too, waited past the 30 days and had to wait for open enrollment. However, she has been on the insurance even though she is still in Colombia. It helps because it starts the clock ticking on the time for pre-existing conditions to expire.

As for the car insurance I was told no by my auto insurance company because you must present a valid state driver's license for auto insurance. That makes sense but all insurance items can vary wildly between one state to another.

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,

May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons

I recently was added to all the hubby's bills etc. Had no trouble being put on the life insurance, bills, and condo. I was also added to the bank account, but i did have to be present for that. He also told me he could have added me to the health insurance no troouble, but we decided against it as it was just too much money while i wont be there to use it (plus free healthcare in England!)

My husband (the USC) had no problem adding me on his company's health insurance plan (which includes life insurance). He also didn't have any problems adding me onto his car insurance. I don't have an SSN either nor am I in the USA.

As other people have said though, it might vary with the companies she is a part of, but get your spouse to ask the varying companies to see if you can be added without an SSN or presence in the USA.
