Good morning! Happy Friday to everyone! Awesome sunrise this morning. Will be another warm day at 78.

Wael is coming down to only a couple finals now! He kept saying "it's the final countdown", and of course

that song stuck in my head while going to bed! Poor guy has lost it and taking me with him

I had noticed Wael wasn't feeling well. Kept asking him what's the matter and he as usual never complains

said he was fine. Turns out he really was sick. He is now another one of the people who has to go on a strict

gluten free and lactose free diet. It's just terrible what he encountered and had two different opinions from the

doctors. Out went all the regular flour, sugar, canned goods, frozen vegetables, bread, etc....I was shocked how

many things contain gluten. I am now making gluten free bread in the bread maker, buying ALL gluten free foods

from pasta, rice, crackers, flour etc.....i've narrowed it down to 3 stores I can shop in and have to read everything

I buy. He also cannot have caffeine and also had to change his toothpaste. Poor guy was loosing weight, literally running to the bathroom, severe cramps,

and the beginnings of just not eating. I couldn't believe how he managed to go to all his classes, do his honors work (separate),

drive with being so sick and keeping his calm mannerisms. He just will not complain about anything and makes me crazy.

Now he's so much better, his color is back (he was almost an ashen) and his weight is coming back. What a difference!

I was so afraid for him. I thank God for helping me cope with something I didn't know nor know what to do to help him.

Afraid now it's no going out to eat. He misses his phillysteak sandwhich!! What an adventure!!!

Sure hope everyone is feeling alright and having a great Friday!!!

TGIF MENA~~

Whoo hoo! So excited this week is over!! Getting close to when family will start arriving for the holidays!!

Going to our first holiday party tonight. It's to hubby's work christmas party. So now I get to put faces to the names of people he works with. Looking forward to it.

Jeanne~ I am so sorry Wael was so sick!! How in the world did he function??? I am glad he is feeling better, but man, What a pain going gluten free!! Has he been diagnosed with Chron's disease? I remember when my daughter found out she was lactose intolerant. It just about did her in! She couldn't handle anything with dairy in it. Whether it was cooked or not. Thank goodness they found a good medication she is taking that helps her. She definitely loves her cheese!!!

Jenell~ how ya doing girl??? Love the acronym for ROC!!! I would have come up with something not so nice!!!

Wendy~ that NOA2 will sneak up on ya just when you think it won't! Man, I remember those days!!! I definitely do not miss them! but I do so enjoy the people I met here on VJ!!

Ok hope all has a great day and wonderfull weekend!! Don't plan on doing much except finally wrap presents!!!

Happy Saturday MENA JVer's. 15 inches of snow can't believe it!!! Didn't go anywhere today either. Had fun listening to all the people thought they could drive through all the snow with their cars get stuck. (I live in an appartment). They snow plowed this morning. So tomorrow I hear we are going to be getting -25 below temps with the wind chills! Guess I'm just staying in for the weekend where it's warm and safe!!

Good Sunday morning! I haven't been here in a while and I feel a bit guilty about that. Everyone here was so wonderful as my husband and I were going through the process of bringing him here and with the initial getting settled steps. After that I went back to work and the time we did have for being on the computer was spent filling out endless job applications. It was amazing to me how the steps to getting a job have changed so much and just how much time and effort it requires to apply for something even like McDonald's with all of the personality assessments and essay questions. We did go and talk with a career counselor at the local community college and she was very helpful but it was quite the ordeal! I'm happy to say he has been working now for almost a month in a good job and is getting quite a few hours. We hope it will continue past the holidays but I'm just so happy for him because it's helping him to feel more at home and so much better about his life and situation in general. He really hated not working. Now we're looking at the final steps to get him started in school in January and so I'm happy to say the adjustment is moving along nicely. My family just adores him too and I've never been happier.

Today the honey is at work but it's a shorter day so he'll be home this afternoon. It will be nice to have him here because I've been so sick the past week and a half and not that much fun. I went out and got the Christmas tree ornaments (I haven't decorated at my house in a few years) and now I'm trying to decide between a real or artificial tree. This afternoon I'll be baking a bunch of cookies for our cookie exchange at work and for my Secret Santa. Sounds like what you did yesterday, Andrea. :) One more week of work and then I can enjoy a two week vacation and I'm excited!

Jackie, I'm excited for you and your job location change. I know what a drain that was on you and so I am so happy for you! Jeanne, wow Wael sounded so sick. Omar gets sick from American processed food too. I don't think it's the same thing because we switched to Moroccan recipes and from scratch cooking and since then he's been a lot better. I am so glad you found out what was wrong and that the adjustments have helped. I had a student a few years ago that had the no gluten dietary needs also. His family was really on top of it and great at educating the teachers on how to make sure he was ok and could still take part in everything. My point is that as you get more used to it, there are a lot of ways you can substitute things and maybe it won't be exactly the Philly cheese sandwich but there can be some good substitutes so he doesn't feel deprived. I'm curious how the diet change has been for you. Do you notice a difference? I know a lot of people change to that even without the allergic reaction.

Everyone have a great day and it's good to hear everyone doing so well!
