Obtaining my Ex's Alien Number

I am in the process of preparing my fiance's I-129F for her K-1 Visa. Over ten years ago, my ex-wife applied with a I-130 with me and immigrated and naturalized succesfully. So now, one of the I-129F questions asks for my ex-wife's Alien number. I'm not on good terms with her and have no access to the records myself. I was directed by my lawyer to check public record, as he believed her A# would be obtainable from the record of her naturalization. The Federal court sent me to the National Archive and National Archive sent me to USCIS, which is 26 Federal Plaza here in NY. My questions:

1. Does anybody know a way (or two?) to get my ex's alien number? (I.e. is my lawyer leading me the right direction?)

2. Is it indeed public record?

3. I have an appointment (INFOPASS) to go to CIS soon. Are they going to be able to help me? Should I bring something?

4. Do you think it's ok to send in the form without the A#. I know her SSN. Can't they just look it up with that. His (lawyer's) theory is that the more info you give CIS the quicker and more reliable they are. If they have to look it up, you don't know what will happen.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I'm not sure I'm on the right track, but hopefully these will help:

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

If you dont know it or cant get help in finding it, then putting 'unknown' is answering truthfully. I imagine an SSN and her name will give them any access they may need to her information.

Thank you both for your answers. My intuition agrees with what you said, aussiewench. I'm just trying to weigh the delay of my searching for this stuff against the delay of them searching for it, or worse still bouncing it back.

Letter of explanation is also an option to be sent with your original application. I wrote one explaining why I stayed in USA illegally :lol: And then my husband wrote one explaining why he didn't put my son on I-129F. Seemed to have worked because I got my visa very fast.

Good luck

Ana
