N-400 and Voting

Hello,

Ok here is my question.

i been browsing some posts. just to learn more because i am going thru N-400 Process. and u know sometimes u read things it makes u worried lol. "I better keep checking my blood pressure" lol .. well, i remember i called County of San Diego to check with them if i have ever voted in any federal, state or local elections. and i was told i have no record with them. but tonight i was reading some post, somebody when he went to get his drivers license, he was asked if he would like to register to vote. so. if u go to get ur drivers license u will be asked if u would like to vote?? the reason i am asking this because i cant remember when i went for my drivers license if i said YES or No. its been awhile. i even cant remember if this question was there.. now again do i have to Contact department of Driver services registering.. to ckeck if i did??? or enough to contact County of san diego "voting department" ???? i never received any registration card or registered anywhere. but that post drove me crazy. and can somebody toss San Diego county number to check with them again please. i had it before but i thing its gone.

If you did not receive a voters registration card, then NO you more than likely did not answer yes. Stop worrying and sending up your blood pressure. You will be fine!

You are not eligible to vote until you are naturalized. After the ceremony you will be given a chance to register.

If you wanted to find out contact the Voters Registration office not the DMV since they have all the records. But yeah you would have got the voters registration card if you had. I think the DMV nowdays at least need to check passports and stuff before actually allowing anyone to register, so you're probably safe...

Well, I was never asked if I want to register to vote and I think simply because when showing the DMV my legal presence documents - they see that I am not a citizen and hence skip the voting question. If you show them a passport or a naturalization document, then that is proof that you are a citizen, and they might be inclined to ask you if you want to vote or not.

I don't think you need to worry at the level you are at right now...

If you have never registered to vote - then you should just answer NO and take it easy.

Thank you so much guys. yeah i never received any Voter card, and when i called the voters registration office, i was told i have no record with them, but i thought there is an option on the DMV form if you a U.S citizen or foreign. that what got my concern.

Back many years ago (before 2000) it was a lot easier to accidently able to register to vote through the DMV. Of course at the time (I remember in 1997) DMV had small kiosks in shopping malls that you could obtain your licence. I remember getting my first one there and asked if I wanted to register to vote. Teenagers working it I'm sure weren't going to ask for passports or anything. In fact all I had to do was hand over my old foreign licence and got a new one in 10 mins. Today you need to show your passport or residency requirement to get your licence, so I'm pretty sure if you try and register to vote nowdays at the DMV, they'll be checking your status by your passport...
