We got our k1 visa approved on Thursday, and we decided to pick it up whenever its ready. They mentioned that we can pick it up in two days, but it is still not ready. Also, as we heard, the consulate won't be handling any delivery on saturday, sunday, or monday. How long does it usually take to pick up the passport and visa after approval?

we are thinking to attend the last petitioner hours this coming monday to ask them to speed up the process and tell them that we can pick it up from the consulate when it's ready. Has anyone done this before? will it effect anything if we try to do this? Thanks!

Pick up at consulate? huh? what?

Usually, these things (visa packet) are sent via EMS to either 'the' post office or the address specified in the EMS label

UNLESS

she was successful in convincing the Consular Official to hold her passport for hand delivery, pick up at the IV unit, and gave her a call in letter to pick it up.

What's what?

-----

Operations at the GUZ IV unit after the interview -

--final review by the Consular Staff

--yet another check to determine if the namechecks are finished or not. If they are, hey - that's great. If they aren't finished, expect to wait some more.

--visa packet created for mailing

--visa packet lobbed to the 'pick up area' in the GUZ IV mailroom, waiting for EMS truck to come by to get it.

--EMS picks up the Visa Packet

--EMS delivers it to the address in the EMS Label

--EMS makes a tracking note in the online EMS portal

Congrats on the approval, but it ain't over till she has the visa packet in hand.

Suggest you call into the DoS call center on Monday (USA EST time) and inquire.

Please review http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/264972-shortcuts-when-checking-for-updates-from-the-nvc-and-dos/

Dodi's posted 'how to call' and further down, I've posted 'what you can get' on status stuff, at each step.

Good Luck ! I pray it's a simple 'hand over' to EMS, that visa packet for yer lass.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Yeah, they allow people to pick up the visa packet at the post office near the consulate in Guangzhou, and we have chosen to do that. It says on the sheet we can pick it up within 3 business days, but they told us in words that we can pick it up in 2 business days at the post office. Well, from what I've seen, most of the people here were able to pick up their visa packet within 2 buz days after their visa was approved... We already booked our flight to the U.S. about a week from now. So we are trying to see if we can pick it up at the place where we filled out the delivery form within the building where the consulate is at.

ah - so that's 'normal method' - sorry -

somehow I had gotten confused with what you had written, thinking you were trying to pick it up AT the IV Unit.

The Postal Thing is fairly standard and common - no worries there.

as to 3 days - ya, sorry, many times it not happen that way.

You can check in with DoS Hotline - see http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/264972-shortcuts-when-checking-for-updates-from-the-nvc-and-dos/ - Dodi's posted 'how to call' and further down, I've posted 'what you can get' and when.
