This is what Chennai consulate web site reads....!!! so answer is yes you have to get the PCC from all the places you have lived after the Age of 16, I hope this helps...Good Luck..!!!

Police Certificates

Each visa applicant over the age of 16 must present original police certificates. Police certificates must cover the entire period of the applicant's residence in any area. The term "police certificate" means a certification by appropriate police authorities stating what their records show concerning each applicant, including all arrests, the reasons for the arrests, and the disposition of each case of which there is a record. Police certificates from certain countries are considered unobtainable. For more information on police certificate requirements see the instructions below:

Indian Citizens Age 16 and above, Residing In India:

All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local passport office.

Indian Citizens Age 16 and above, Who Live Outside of India:

Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.

Non-Indian IV applicants Residing In India:

Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.

Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.

All Applicants Who Have Resided In Any Other Country for One Year or More:

All Immigrant Visa applicants who have resided in any country outside of India for 12 months or more while age 16 or over are required to present a police clearance certificate from that country, even if it is their home country. For additional information, see: http://travel.state.gov/reciprocity/country_pick.htm. To find information for the country in which you lived, click on letter at the top that represents the first letter of the country in which you lived. For details on how to obtain a police clearance certificate, please contact the nearest Consulate or Embassy of the country in which you have lived.

NOTE:

Police certificates are valid only for 12 months from the date of issuance.

Police certificates are not required for applicants under the age 16.

If your passport is older than 6 months, then i think you should have to also get PCC(police clearance certificate) from local district police stattion. I think you only need this pcc for the current address where u r residing now OR from that address which is in ur passport.

this is correct - you only need the regional passport office PCC. my wife was in the same situation where her passport was just barely over 6 months of being issued. we went and got a local PCC anyway and the chennai consulate didnt even ask about it (this was just back this june, so very recent). so fortunately for you, chennai is pretty good about these things and only requires the one. i'm reading horror stories about ppl in ahmedabad RPO and getting PCCs. best of luck!

although i should mention that the RPO PCC should be WITHIN 6 months of the interview date. we made the cutoff within a month, but apparently that came as a rude surprise to a few folks who went for interviews and were told that they needed to get another RPO PCC. so do keep that in mind. For us, Chennai consulate was pretty relaxed in not only the PCC, but also to the birth cert. my wife's BC has her full maiden name, but only her parents' 1st names. and to boot, they jumbled her dad's name in her passport as middle, last, first rather than F M L. so while we thought that may be a source of an RFE or an interview-time RFE, it was not and everything went smoothly including the interview process (although time consuming and of course, stressful) and the post-interview visa procurement (ie picking it up frm the VFS in person the next day)- so Chennai consulate is tops in our book

the next day - at the VFS office after 4 pm. just make sure your wife asks the interviewing officer if she can pick up the visa herself personally (probably dont even need to ask, as it is likely already part of the process) after he says she is approved and it should be ready. i'm curious about your situation - how is it that your wife needs a visa, if she already has SSN, driver's license etc?

btw, your timeline is a dream timeline! everyone should be so lucky; only 70 days to 130 approval and 5 days to SIF - congratulations!!! it took us 2.5 times that for 130 approval. after that though, everything went very smoothly thru NVC and the ensuing interview process, which i guess is the important thing!...

VSC was approving the cases under 90 days for July filers and I was lucky to be a July VSC guy :star:

NVC - Everything went very well :star:

Last immigrant visa - She was here in the U.S in her CR1 visa processed by me in 2008. But, due to her long absence in the U.S, she surrendered it in Chennai U.S consulate. I asked her re-entry permit, but she was not sure when will she back to the U.S. So, we didn't take the re-entry permit. Now she changed her mind to come back to the U.S. so, I had only option to re-start this entire process again.

My Interview is next week on 18th oct, 2011.

I still haven't got my Indian Police Clearance Document due to a big mess happening in the Govt offices in my locality.

I have a new passport renewed and issued in Aug,2011 and since I lived in Australia for past 2.5 years;

I have an Aus Police clearance and

a stamp on my old passport saying that I have been issued an Indian Police Clearance, when the time I was in Australia, that is in June 2010.

Is it like, still, do I need the Indian Police Clearance in my case as a mandatory document from the consular officers in India ?

Please reply, if anyone knows anything of the above situation ?
