Income Requirement question

Hi everyone,

I don't know if this has topic has been covered before, but I haven't run across it yet so I'm asking ;) Right now I make about twice as much as I need to make to meet the 125% income poverty guidelines. There is "a chance" that I might lose my job next month depending on a clients decision to keep or drop our account, since 99% of the work I do is for them. If that happens I think I will still meet the guidelines with unemployment and a small pension check I get from a previous divorce. Right now were are waiting for our NOA2 and are almost hitting the six month mark. I'm going to be calling a congressman once it hits six months if we still haven't received anything.

My question is, worst case scenario.....can I use only unemployment and retirement as sources of income? Or will I need to find a job quickly so that I'm employed to continue on with the process and to fill out the I-864. If that happens (crossing my fingers it doesn't) I would rather take my time to find a decent job rather than take anything just to be employed. I'm not a job hopper and it won't look good on a resume to start a job and immediately be looking for another. But I know what income I need to make to pay my bills and be comfortable and I might not find that right away, so I may have to take whatever I can find if that's the case.

Thanks in advance!

Pension and unemployment income can be considered. But if you are really at the threshold level, it may be questioned. Getting another job quickly is the best.

Thank you. Not the answer I was looking for, but I appreciate the help. :) I've been with this company for five years, not sure why the client had to pick this time to possibly change agencies and drop our account. It's a lot of stress. I guess I just have to wait and see what happens...

Hi Lisa, do you have any 401K or assets saved? I didn't even have a job more than a month and never did for 12 years prior with no 2009 tax to show either. All I had was, alimony, child support and a part-time job with one pay stub and a letter of employment. We were approved with no co-sponsor.
