Lead time to get Visa after Interview

Hi,

Can anyone say what is the lead time to collect the passport after an immigrant visa interview. How many days are required between the interview date and the travel.

First of all most (more than 90%) people will be approved and granted the visa on the same day of the interview.

Check with VFS if you can do counter collection of the passport from them. If possible, it will be ready on the day of the interview or the next day at VFS counter.

If not, VFS will courier (Blue Dart) the passport to the address mentioned in DS-230.

If you live in city area, it should arrive in 3 to 4 business days time. If in remote area, you need to go to the Blue Dart office in the town to pick it up.

So, if visa is granted on the same day of the interview, you are good to travel in 1 week time.

Having said this, I don't recommend to book the tickets in advance. And I would do it after the interview.

07/02/2012 - VFS visit in Cochin

07/04/2012 - Medical in Chennai

07/12/2012 - Interview in Mumbai - Success!

09/08/2012 - POE at JFK, NY
