My Fiancee was so excited about receiving her Visa that she started to open the yellow envelope before whe red the warning not to tear or open the visa. The waring says she will not be allowed to embark on the plane or have significant delays at her POE. What do we need to do or how can I rectify this before she leaves?

She just received the VISA today so we have not made travel arrangements but were hoping for next week as the departure. she has to take to CFO seminar first.

She has time, then. Hope it works out...she should be able to get it within the day, but I am unsure if an appointment needs to be made prior to that...may want to give the Embassy a call before you have her go there so she knows what to do.

It's not a matter of transferring the contents of the envelope to another envelope. Inside the envelope is her whole immigration file. Before sealing a new envelope, the Embassy has to make sure that nothing is missing, nothing has been added, and nothing has been switched. Since they do not have a copy of what was in the envelope before sealing it, it could result in considerable delay.

You may get lucky, or you may have to wait another month or two.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I believe the last two pinays that had this experience waited less than a week for the returned visa.

I believe it was only the envelope that was torn open...visa is ok, the girl is going to CFO to get the sticker. How long does it take to get the paperwork transferred to a new sealed envelope?

Let me correct my grammar: I believe the last two pinays that had this experience waited less than a week for the returned visa [package].

I only going off my memory, but both cases returned the visa package immediately back to the USEM and got the new package within a week. How long it actually will take will depend upon the USEM.

Now many have mistaken the cut corner for an open envelope.

I remember the sealed envelope. We carried it sealed all the way to LAX for POE.

The security at the airport opened this envelope before we got into the line for immigration.

I was like #######! So we were able to view the contents inside this envelope before even reaching the window for a good 15 mins.

Go back to the US Embassy and have them re-seal this envelope.

Our envelope was very thick since we submitted many documents and pictures. The envelope barely even closed.

lesson learned...Anything that has written on it "Warning Do NOT OPEN!!" Means just that...Do Not Open! This is a government document and they mean what they say and make no exceptions.

Below is the official response from an e-mail inquiry to USEM. It appears to be only a minor inconvenience. Just one more thing to do in Manila before she departs for USA. Thanks to those who have been helpful.

"This is in reply to your inquiry of October 23, 2010, regarding your visa concerns.

Your beneficiary should submit the visa packet, together with her passport with the issued K1 visa, to the Embassy's Immigrant Visa Unit (Window 34) on any workday, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., to have it resealed. She may also send the documentation by courier delivery service to the Immigrant Visa Branch (Attention: Operations Unit), U.S. Embassy, 1201 Roxas Boulevard, 1000 Manila.

We hope this information is helpful to you.

Sincerely,

Immigrant Visa Correspondence Unit
