Hello,

I wanted to file directly to the consulate in ghana after establishing residency there with my soon to be husband, but I just found out that Ghana does not offer DCF. :( So my next idea is going to Ghana, marrying him, and then returning home to the US to file the papers. But instead of waiting in the US for the lengthy process to be complete....does anyone know if I can return to Ghana and wait there with him til everthing is done? I can have someone in the US retrieve all my mail and update me on anything I get from them. Do u think this is possible? Thanks for the help

*** not a K-3 visa question, moving to IR-1/CR-1 forum ***

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Definitely possible. You don't even need to go back to the US if you don't want to; just mail everything from Ghana (assuming they have a decent postal system), but do make sure you have a US mailing address for them to send YOU stuff to.

Are you sure the embassy doesn't do DCF? If you saw that on the website, it may be outdated, I'd ring them and check (make sure you get an American CO to talk to, not a local office worker).

Ayoomi,

I love the name but someone may recognize :).

I will say if you can afford to be in Ghana while this crazy process is going on, then by all means do it. I have heard of one person who elected to stay inGhana after her wedding and file for her husband. So if I were you, I will call the Embassy to establish that fact. It is not easy to go through the Process in Ghana at all. I think the ambassador needs to address this issue promptly because it is unacceptable. If he cannot do his job, then someone ought to replace him and bring some structure and efficiency into the system there. Nonetheless, I echo what others have said, file the application and you can EMS it to the Lockbox closer to where youy live now. EMS is dependable. I mailed my taxes while I was recently in Ghana but it took 9 days before reaching Austin to be processed.
