Guys,

In the interview process, do we need to have the petitioner with the beneficiary. If the petitioner is able to make it to the interview, does the US consulate require the petitioner to be physically present. Our consulate is Chennai, India.

No, only the beneficiary has to be present for the interview.

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

Even if the petitioner wants to join the beneficiary at Chennai Consulate, Consulate will not allow the petitioner to be in :star:

I got an email response back from the Consulate. I will wait with our daughter in the lounge or outside.

What do you mean Loto? The petitioner/US citizen, at least in my case is allowed to go in with me..I've read past interviews where they'll stick both of you in a booth, ask you both questions, and then separate questions. IT's not required, but I think it speaks VOLUMES if the petitioner and beneficiary are there. The Montreal consulate..where I"ll be going allows my wife, US citizen, to accompany me into the consulate.

Odd, I thought those were all standard rules at ALL US consulates..shame. I would think that having the petitioner and beneficiary there at the same time would make it a lot easier for the immigration officer to render a decision.

lol good idea but i doubt it. how would they verify its the partner on the other end of the line?

perhaps they'd have to describe what they are wearing, and not crunch chips down the end of the phone. that might go against the couple at the interview.

visa denied - your wife is a noisy eater lol
