Philippine Airlines NAIA 2 check-out time

Hi!

David is coming over next weekend, arriving from Las Vegas on a Flight 107 of PAL.

I'm worried because his flight from Las Vegas is expected to arrive at 4:40AM on Oct23, Saturday, and our flight to Tacloban's ETD is 5:50AM. We should be at the check-in counter for our domestic flight at least 45minutes before the ETD because that's the time that they close the counter for everyone. He should actually be there an hour before the ETD because they often overbook the flights and we'd be in serious trouble if we can't get that flight.

Not only will we have to pay for new tickets at the regular fare (because our tickets are promo & non-rebookable/nonrefundable), but the new flight will be hours after, and that means we'd miss our schedule. He'd only be here for 3 days (2 days in Samar & 1 day in Manila), as that was the ticket that he got and he can't get enough leave of absences from his work now because he just started his new job. He's meeting a lot of people on this visit, and it is important that we get to Catbalogan (3 hours away from the Tacloban airport) before lunch, so that he wouldn't miss meeting my grandaunt (who's more like our mother now) and my aunt (who's been our nanny for years so she's more like a big sister to us). Oct25 is election day and my grandaunt is a candidate at their barrio and my aunt is also serving as a BEI, so they have to leave after lunch in order to be there at the barrio for the preparations. Saturday brunch is our schedule for the formal "pamamanhikan" and those two are considered part of my immediate family, so they have to be there. We'll barely have time to rest and prepare for the engagement party is in the evening and it's going to be a circus with the many friends and family that will be coming over to meet David (although I've been keeping things mum specially on Facebook, so that there wouldn't be too many people), so the "formal talks" will have to be earlier than that and had to be moved to the late morning because of the two family members who had to leave right away.

My biggest concern right now is missing that flight from Manila to Tacloban, because of the time between his arrival and our departure. Assuming that the flight wouldn't be late --hopefully it will be early-- it's still only 70 minutes between flights, so that leaves him less than 25 minutes to walk the hallways, get his baggage, go through Immigrations & Customs, and be at the domestic check-in counter (at the other wing of the NAIA2) before the counter closes.

To the people here who've went through the same process at arriving from a PAL international flight at NAIA2, or better yet, for those who had to go straight to the domestic wing, can you please tell me how long it took you to go through that? I'm really really worried, and we have to catch that flight or all our plans for that trip will be screwed. Now there are even storms coming in, and it only makes me worry all the more, and I'm just praying that those two impending typhoons will be long gone before he arrives.

wow, one hour is just impossible. i'd ask you why you booked the two flights so close to each other but it wouldn't matter now. you really need to pray that his flight coming in has fewer passengers than normal. connecting isn't really your problem since both flights are w/PAL. make sure your fiance fills out his forms (arrival-departure and customs) on the plane and cmopletely/correctly so he can get to the immigration line first and first as well to the customs line, and get out as fast as he can. i also suggest that you ask for assistance from PAL's desk to help you in connecting to the tacloban flight. good luck =)

Thanks! That's what I told him also. He has to talk to the people at the plane, to tell them that he needs to be the first at everything because he can't miss his flight. In other words, he has to tell them that he's going to do a "pamamanhikan" and his schedule is tight, and to charm everyone into doing him a favor.

He's the one who booked all the flights, and he made mistakes even though I gave him all the information he needed in advance and even kept on reminding him. Our return flight from Tacloban will not even be used, because it's totally wrong and I had to personally book another flight from Cebu Pacific a day earlier than his booked return flight.

I just have to do my part and talk to the airport people before he arrives, so that there would be people to help him out the plane and make sure that he gets to my side soon. Right now, I'm praying not only for the things going well at "pamanmanhikan" and the engagement parties, but also for his flight to arrive an hour early, for his transfer to be quick, and for the storms to be away when he arrives.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news kapatid...but one hour inbetween flights....let alone there's a short (really short) travel time between the airports....it's not looking good. k'se just waiting to deplane already takes at least a minimum of 10 minutes (depending on where he got seated and how fast people move out of the plane. and another 15-20 minutes at the customs counter if there's a lot of people. but ang pinakamatagal...yung paghihintay ng baggage at the baggage carousel. that can take from 5 minutes to 1 hour (unless wala syang checked-in baggage/box). so after the plane lands, it will still take at least a minimum of 45 minutes for him to really be out at the meeting area. i know because when i go home, i always tell my wife to be there at least one hour after the plan lands para hindi sila naghihintay. and it has always worked for us.

one thing you can do is 2 hours before the ETA of his flight sa manila, call the automated flight schedule number nung airline...para malaman mo the exact arrival time ng plane. that will let you know how close as far as time you are looking at.

Urgh!!! :( And with the superstorm coming and the heavy rains (hopefully no floods) that is expected to come with it, I'm just praying so hard that it will be out of the country way before he arrives. I'm also praying so hard that his flight will arrive an hour before the ETA, just like last month's arrivals. I sure do hope I get my wish.

Thanks for the information and for the advice! We'll do our best to get that flight. It's also election so most of the other flights are already fully booked with people going home or taking some materials some for the elections, so getting another flight will be tough. :-(

The first time I went I got through everything pretty fast except the baggage check with Customs. I think my luggage was the last piece taken off that 747. I think it took me at least a good hour all together before leaving for the other flight. Best of luck

Just an update:

I found out that if his flight was delayed and caused him to miss the connecting flight, we'll be accommodated on the next flight without extra charge. I just hope that this is true. However, it will still be a big inconvenience for us, because it means that we will be missing the schedule for the "pamamanhikan" (official betrothal talks) brunch. We had to schedule that for brunch because my grandaunt (practically our mother after our Mom died) who is a candidate, and one of my aunts (who is practically our big sister because she's been our nanny for almost a decade) who will be serving as a BEI, will have to go home to the barrio right after lunch in order to prepare for the elections and they're only coming over that morning in order to attend the talks as there are a lot of other things to resolve. Unfortunately, when we scheduled our flights, there was no schedule for the elections yet and we weren't even sure that there would be elections this year. Now it's big trouble for us, because everyone is complaining that they'll be very busy and might not be able to come over to meet him and join in the talks.

Another trouble that I've been worrying about aside from the closeness of that connecting flight and the delays due to the storms lately, is the new storm that is coming. I spotted a Low Pressure area in the Pacific again 6 hours ago when I checked the satellite maps. It's still out of the Philippine area of responsibility, but it's a big one and coming our way. When I went online again this morning, PAGASA has also spotted it and told everyone on their typhoon advisory that it is indeed another LPA and is forming to be a typhoon that could be as powerful as Typhoon Juan. Personally, I think it will be although I hope it is not, but when I look at it, it's diameter is very wide, and the speeds and temperature is ripe for another supertyphoon. According to PAGASA, it will enter Philippine territory by Saturday, and will start affecting us then although it might still be okay for the elections on Monday. Personally, I think that it's already affecting us, just by affecting Typhoon Juan's movements and making it linger just West of Northern Luzon these past few days, almost not moving at all, and therefore prolonging it's effects on our countrymen up North. David is then hoping that while these storms will not affect/delay our flights to and from the province and therefore enable us to meet all our schedules, he is also hoping that this new typhoon will make landfall on Luzon (and Manila) by Tuesday just before his flight, so that his international flight back to Vegas will be postponed and we could spend more time with each other. We wouldn't be really have any time just for us in the three days that he will be here, as it will be full of activities (acquaintance parties mostly) in three cities, and some family members are still complaining that it's not enough time for them to get to know him also as they'll be sharing him with several other people (maybe a hundred adults in total). We may not be able to get any decent sleep at all, so we are hoping to have some more personal time after all that.

Wishing and hoping here... for the best!

sorry to sound insensitive...but if the other people that are supposed to be in the pamamanhikan brunch and are very busy and complaining, then you should just tell them na kung wala na sila when you get there...oh well. hindi lang naman ang mga relatives mo ang meron schedule eh. you and your fiancee is also on a very tight schedule. dapat intindihin nila na yung time na nakuha ng fiancee mo to go there. complain sila ng complain kse 3 days lang and feel nila hindi sapat na panahon. but did they think na that's all his work allowed him to take off? siyempre kabuhayan ng tao yon and wala syang ibang magagawa.

isipin naman sana nila how much pressure sa fiancee mo to accomodate your family's request...instead sourgraping about him not being able to stick around longer so they can grill him. it would've been better if he was able to get a longer vacation time...but again, the time he's allowed to be gone from work was not up to him. sabihin mo na lang sa pamilya mo, initial trip pa lang naman ito eh. im pretty sure in the future, he'll have more time to spend with your family.
