Hi All,

I thank all of you & LOTO for great replies. Regarding my concern of new immigrants with little English, what do they ask (interview) at the port of entry & how do new immigrants with little English handle this. Loto mentioned that they ask a couple of very basic questions. This makes sense. I just wanted to ask again if there is anyone out there with this experience as to what kind of questions are expected at airport port of entry? PLease advice. I'll definetely post what they ask my family after they arrive.

As for the documents, I'll have them carry passports & sealed visa envelops. I'm assuming that's all is needed.

CBP can ask any questions that were asked during the embassy interview. In practice, they rarely give a family-based visa immigrant too hard of a time. If language will be a challenge, perhaps someone on the same flight who's fluent in English can be temporarily recruited to help out.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Dont worry man, it will not be tough as it was in Visa Interview. They can ask then only some basic questions. Like

who is ur petitioner?

whats ur relation with the petitioner?

where the petitioner live?

where will u live?

what the petitioner do?

what will u do in usa?

have u been in usa anytime?

all will be basic questions ,it will not be a big deal. Good luck to ur family.

Unless you're the head of USCIS and you've circulated a memo with specific instructions, you can't claim with any credibility what will be asked or what will happen. The accurate information is in my other post above.

Excuse me TBonetx!!! I didn't say i m head of USCIS...... :P I have just given him some hints with some basic questions,i didn't told him that they will ask these questions. U can read it again,there is no charge.As they have cleared their interview then there shoukd be no problem.Therefore i have just given him some positive energy.

Words mean things, my friend. There's a world of difference between "will / can" and "should / "may". The second pair would have made the answer just fine.

PLease advice.". So he is looking for some basic questions. He also know that there will be some questions like it was in interview. But he wants to know some actual questions as a examples. So one can't say like that ,"CBP can ask any questions that were asked during the embassy interview" . This is not a particular answer. This is a common answer which everybody knows. So i clearly posted like that , "They can ask then only some basic questions. Like....." . So my friend TBone find that i used the word "can". We are here to help each other and to encourage people.

Fair enough, but no one should be surprised if the CBP personnel ask absolutely anything that they decide to ask. There are no limits on that.

Yeah ,you are right man. Everybody knows that they can ask anything!!!! We are just giving them hints,nothing else. Because some people think that there will be some type of questions. So we are giving them just hints that there willbe/should be these type of basic questions.
