When it comes to k1 visas, the circumstance of your case and your amount of evidence determine how easy the process will be for you and not just the consulate. I went through the US embassy in Nigeria for a K1 visa and it was a painless experience. I am surprised that some people here are tagging Nigeria as a Terrorist country alongside Iran and Yemen. The fact that the stupid Nigerian guy was indoctrinated by Alqueda does not make Nigeria a terrorist country, so please be informed that the US have taken Nigeria off the terrorist list!!

It's more difficult to get a visa out of the consulate in Lagos because of the amount of visa fraud they see on a regular basis. It's not because anyone perceives Nigeria as a terrorist country. I don't know if the actual statistics are available anywhere, but it's widely believed that Lagos has the highest rate of visa fraud of any US consulate in the world, which is why many believe it is probably the most difficult consulate. The consulate in Vietnam is also difficult, and it's also because it has a very high level of fraud.

In countries where there is a perceived terrorist risk, the difficulty is not so much proving a bona fide relationship - they use the same standards most consulates use, which includes local customs. The difficulty is in getting through the extensive background checks they perform on the beneficiary. Some people are hung up in AP for years after the interview.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

They said fraud and terrorist Nigeria is the number one fraud country. They see more fake documents, fake marriages, fake divorces. That is why it is do difficult in general.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

It is really about common sense, do most Brits want to "cheat their way" into America? No, but I am sure you can think of countries that are facing absolute poverty (South America, Africa, and parts of Southeast Asia come to mind) and so they are very hard. Of course you also have the weird places like Morocco where age and sex can create probs because it goes against social norms.... but aside from places like that poverty is the main issue that causes ppl to want to seek a fake marriage.

Si, man. One of my immigration attorneys, who himself had served as a CO in Yemen & Barbados, answered this way when I asked him what was considered a high-fraud situation: "Any poor country."

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I understand what you are trying to say, but I think there is a nicer way to word it other than using "terrorists countries" :)

as an iranian i am not offended.

you have to realize people dont look at the population as terrorists, they look at the government and a minority of the population as terrorism supporters/terrorists.

US doesnt have an embassy in iran and that should define the worst case of " terrorist country" for you right there.

HOWEVER i think the case in majority of countries is what makes the process easier or harder
