after submitting paperwork

Is there a way to get a new 'pinned' topic outlining the steps AFTER the paperwork has been submitted? I see there's one that explains in detail about what to do up to and including sending the packet. I also notice that many people seem to ask a bunch of questions over and over, over time, about what happens after that. If we start a new pinned thread, we could have, all in one place, all the information we need while we wait. Things like processing times, what to expect for the interview, things like that.

For example, my husband was asking today if the questions he'll be asked (from that list of 100) are verbal or on a computer (like when he took his exam for his drivers license). I know I've seen several posts about what to take to the interview.

So, can we do a new pinned topic about "what happens after sending the packet"?

Also, can anyone let me know if the questions are on a computer, or asked by the interviewer?

Thanks!

I like the idea of a pinned topic. I know the questions are asked by a person not a computer because of all I've read here, otherwise we would not have known! Last night we found a helpful video detailing what happens throughout the whole process, including showing the interview process too. It is from USCIS site, here it is:

ditto,

just like any immigration process interview, it is with an officer, who will go through your file and ask the questions. The officer will go through the N400, ask him 6 questions from the 100 questions. he will read a question and write the answer. Is he filing due to the 3 year rule of marriage?

Like doing things the hard way, downloaded both the N-400 instructions and the M-476 manual, printed out both, sat down on my recliner and read each circling only the parts that applied to us.

Got back on my computer and copied and pasted just the sections that applied to us to Word and printed out three sheets from over 80 pages. But unlike the IRS with line by line instructions, couldn't find anything like that for the N-400. Was about four sections that twisted my brain, so just called my immigration attorney, and he advised how to fill those out.

IRS isn't so hot either, they love using double and triple negatives in each sentence, so copy and paste those to Word and rewrite each sentence without the negatives so you know what in the hell they are telling you. I now from experience, the government hires a bunch of attorneys and English majors that really like to stretch a simple three word question into a powerful legal statement or a novel in an attempt to justify their paychecks. There key goal is not to communicate, but rather to impress, but for the rest of us, one big fat pain in the ####.

One of the worse documents I have ever read was the American Patriot Act, really had problems with that and the banks when I first brought my wife here. Everybody read it in a different way and would only end up in an argument. But know way to convince the other reader responsible for making that decision that affects your life. Well there is a way, hire an attorney and take them to court, but you will be spending the rest of your life in court.

Often felt we should take our 234 years of laws and statues and burn them, and start from scratch using simple plain English. For every statue, you can find another that completely contradicts it.

Least my immigration attorney was honest enough to say, if the USCIS made it easy with their instructions and forms to comprehend, he wouldn't have a job. But has the help of our attorney based leadership, to assure that he and others will have that job.

Can't fight with the USCIS, your family life is at stake, but would be nice if 2/3's of US taxpayers would refuse to pay taxes to the IRS until they came out with comprehensible forms and instructions. But that would put a whole bunch of tax preparers out of business and they seem to have a larger say in this matter than what we do.

ELW,

Thank you! That was very helpful. I made sure my husband saw the video, and he said he was very happy he got to see it.

aleful,

The only interview he had so far was for the visa, and that was in Morocco - and almost 4 years ago!

Yes, he's filing based on the 3 year rule.
