K3 and tourist visa

Prior to me and my wife getting married, she was in the middle of her process to obtain a tourist visa. Now I don't know if I should wait for her tourist visa application to be approved before I file for the K3 visa. I'd love for her to be able to visit me while waiting for the K3 visa to be approved. I have 2 questions:

1) Will applying for a K3 visa while her tourist visa application is pending nullify her tourist visa application?

2) If it doesn't nullify her toursit visa application, will she be able to fly to the US to visit me on a toursit visa while her K3 visa application is pending?

Filed: K-3 Visa Country: Philippines
Timeline

My wife is also from the Philippines and we are also in the midst of our K-3 visa petition.

About 30 days ago we got an appointment for my wife at the US Embassy in the Phillipines to try and get Mel a tourist visa so that she could come to help me with my father who just had a quadruple heart by pass and heart valve repalcement. He was not doing well then and is not doing well now. He needs a full time home caregiver, and coincidentally my wife Melinda is a professional caregiver.

Mel took with her to the appontment, the letters from the doctors and hopitals to present as evidence of her need to come to the US for a short visit. I wrote a letter telling the interviewer at the Embassy that we would not jeapordize our K-3 visa by allowing Melinda to overstay a tourist visa, and that she would return to the Phil promptly when the tourist visa expired.

When she got to the interviewm the man was rude to her, condescending, told her that he didnt need to loolk at the evidence that she brought and that she would have to wait for her K-3 visa. Then the worst part, he told Melinda that "There is no room for you in the US".

She walked out of the interview devistated and crying all the way back to Tacloban.

So, my advise, they dont let Filipinas out of the country on a tourist visa unless they have alot of money in the bank, own a business, or have a very substatial job in the Phil.

Dont put your wife through the horror Mel went through

Think of the satisfaction she will have when she gets her K3 and the US says "Come on in!". What an arsehole.

I have no useful information other than to say that even with a tourist visa, entry to the US is not guaranteed. People still get turned away. You may as well get the K3 going - no need to sit on it longer than necessary.

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

Hiya, jwilson.

A guy I work with is trying to get his wife here on a K-3 from the Phillipines, and her tourist visa proved worthless as soon as they got married (she got turned back at LAX on her first visit back to see him). Go ahead and file the K-3 and resign yourself to a long time apart. Sorry man. I know it sucks when you feel like you might have had a good plan.

If you haven't done something like this already, each of you should get a pair of internet-use headphones and sign up for Skype so you can at least have free calls online:

http://skype.com/

That will help bridge the miles for now. There is no charge for computer-to-computer calls, and the sound is pretty darn good. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't Skype my wife (okay, that you can delete).

Peace,

Bob

Thanks for all the input. It looks like I better not take my chances. I read in tohter threads where they were successful but they were from the UK. I guess, coming from a branded terrorist nation and a 3rd world country affects the credibility of the people. That sucks. I should just save my vacation time and be the one to visit her.

On a separate note, I don't use skype but i got her a wifi phone using vonage. this way I get to talk to her (w/a clean line) while we do video chat via Yahoo messenger. And whenever she has access toa wifi spot, she can give me a call.
