Hi Loto,

Your pocket guide was one of the first things I read recently. I didn't understand if I should have all the IV packet documents and overnight them to NVC or should my wife send the docs from Ukraine. Obviously, sending the docs from Ukraine is longer and much riskier than me overnighting the docs to NVC. I would prefer to send the docs, just dont know if it is allowed or not.

This is my first "goat roping" with an I-130 and every mistake results in delay. So I try to avoid the mistakes.I am at 96 days since NOA1 so now is the time to get things right.

Jimmy,

Before IV packet, there is a form DS-3032. She will email it to NVC making you as the 'Choice of Agent' (kinda authorization from your wife). Then she can send all her docs to you. You in turn will submit them to NVC along with IV packet. Simple!

ah - stuff...

DS-3032 - email the form data --> http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Email_DS-3032_form

Need civil documents for the DS-230 - read all 7 pages - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

Most people start collecting the civil documents right after knowing the noa-2 date.

I-864 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3730.html

General NVC stuff - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html

A mini-how-to for using the online payment portal for status, at NVC - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/221785-ds-3032-slowdown/page__view__findpost__p__3560467

So, if I was in yer shoes, trying to be pro-active -

I'd have her sign 5 to 6 sets of the DS-230 form,

practice filling out the I-864,

and having it all 'ready to go' by the time you get the AOS FEE BILL in yer email inbox.

You do have some time to prep, thankfully...

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Thanks for the info Darnell and Loto.

I have a little situation. My wife doesn't want to mail me her original and certified documents for fear of loosing them in the mail. Also, I noticed via link that Darnell sent me ( http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3731.html )that my wife should bring all original documents to the interview.

Her argument is how can she bring the original documents to the interview if she has mailed them to me and I have given the documents to the NVC?

it doesn't say that, exactly.

What it DOES say - is Ensure that all required Original Documents will be available at the time of the interview.

Now - what's that, really?

'to ensure' , yes?

so they are 'available' , yes?

Well, all that's done at NVC , during the intake of the DS-230. The 'ensuring' step occurs at NVC.

These Original Documents 'travel along' with the casefile, from NVC to the IV Unit at the US Embassy in Kiev, thus being 'available' on interview day.

Trust me, they really, really do.

having read these forums for some time, and having been familiar with the situations of several friends, my opinion is that the amount of time it takes to get approved is completely arbitrary. Some countries seem to be faster, but then there are always outlying cases that seem to throw off the pattern.

make certified copies and keep the originals at home. Take the originals to any notary service to make copies, then take these copies to the Department of Justice in Kiev (Ministerstvo Yustitsii) where notary signature will be certified and they will put the apostille to use the docs outside Ukraine. This process takes 1 day and cost about $30 per document.

05/04/2010 ------ I-130 Sent

05/14/2010 ------ NOA 1

10/14/2010 ------ NOA 2

11/05/2010 ------ AOS sent

11/08/2010 ------ IV package sent AOS sent

Thanks for the replies, Do couples in this situation normally send the originals or do most couples go for the certified copies?

If people are scared to lose their originals, they would send "Certified Copy" and will produce the original to the Consulate at interview.
