does the us petioner have to have a passport for the interview?
Not sure if they ask for it to enter the Embassy. Or if they want to see it at the interview, since it's your passport they'll need for the visa. But he'll need it to go to Canada and get back into the States. A driver's license is not proof of citizenship at the border. Those days are coming to an end. Where's his passport?

hi cygnet.....i am soo happy everything went well for the 2 of ya...congrats is in order!!!...i am from montreal, and bill is from vermont..(which yes is a very nice state, his kids live in milton. just want to ask a question,.....does the us petioner have to have a passport for the interview???...or can he just use his drivers license? if ya can let me know that would be great...thanks again...and good luck on the rest of your journey (F)

Billsgirl, I forget if they asked for an ID or a passport. My husband doesn't remember either. :( I have a feeling they asked for a photo ID at the consulate but I'm not so sure. Try calling the Montreal consulate if you can and ask.

I agree with Jersey Girl. At some point he will need his passport to get back into the US.

YES, the USC was asked for the passport to enter the consulate as of Aug.8/06 the day I went.
