I'm not a mental giant nor a mental midget, but the instruction packet(3) my finacee received was very confusing.

1) Should the checklist be for what is checked on the list or is that a check list for what should be returned?

2) The bottom of the form says to sign and return for your interview date. With or with out the checked or non-checked information?

3) On that list is an affidavit of support form. Should that have come to the pettioner and not the beneficary, or am I just spitting into the wind? Maybe that's proof of a relationship that my fiancee should ask me for that? If it is universal why not part of the I-129F application?

4) Police records for everywhere she has ever lived for 6 months for the past 24 years??? (she's 40 now, don't tell her I told you that)She went to Singapore to escape a per-arranged marriage. But that was many years ago (still after she was 16). I guess, find a Singapore Embassy to confirm the police record??? I hope there are lots of them.

5) Confusing DS form asks for a spouse then parents. Are those the spouses parents??? (not clear).

6) Question about who will come with you or folow you? I assume this is for the married and with children people. Not the relatives coming for the wedding people.

Some questions may be obvious others not so. Just want to make sure I direct my gal correctly.

Thanks

1.The checked things are the things to complete.

2.Send your checked things in with your signed form.

3.Affidavit of support should be filled out by petitioner and included in sent forms.

4.If they want all the records, get all the records.

5.Your spouse, your parents

6,That's about kids. Nevermind.

Please don't carry on until someone has come by to confirm or clarify my responses. I think they're good but wish to have a more experienced person validate or add detail.

re: police records

--for China, she can get this from the Big PSB in the city/district/province where she has her HUKUO book registration. The report that is issued covers all of China. If she is a migrant worker (city she works in, is NOT her hukuo registered city) then she'll need to either 1) get back to that city and have the PCC made there or 2) get her other family member, listed in the hukuo book, to obtain it for her at the PSB. ANY other family member that is LISTED in the Hukuo book is allowed to get this PCC on her behalf.

--for Singapore, she'll need to get the clearance. If she has a friend still in Singapore, then she can 'assign that friend' to be a proxy, acting on her behalf, to show up in person and get the report. IF SHE HAS NO FRIEND IN SINGAPORE, then it's possible to get it via postal mail request, expect a 4 to 9 week turn-around, with payment made with the submitted request.

re: affadavit of support form - if it's got a notarization block in it, that's the OLD ONE - GUZ IV is notorious for sending out older forms - they have this cr@p in storage and prefer to send it out rather than destroy it. Yup - that's for YOU to fill out, the petitioner, but it must be in the beneficiary's hands right prior to interview day - she's to hand it in ON interview day.

re: the list..

I'm assuming yer looking at the OF-169 , found at http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/forms_and_packets.htm

The only thing she's to send back IS the DS-230 Part I, and the filled out OF-169, and a filled out EMS label, and that's it. The remainder of the items on the checklist, she is to bring in on interview day.

any DS form is HER VISA APPLICATION, so when filling it out, use 'her voice' when filling it out.

--spouse - NONE for a K-1 visa

--parents - her parents

--ppl travelling with her - IF she has children that qualify, and IF they are coming in on derivative K-2 visas, you MUST list them. Parents, siblings, cousins, housemaids, do NOT qualify.

Hi,

Thank you all for your responses. I feel much better. I thought I was 95% correct, but when my fiance starts asking me questions about a process we are both trying to understand together, and I don't know how to help with the answers it get very frustating for me.

With the rise of indentity theft, I get even more concerned about supplying the information requested half way across the world. She's worth the risk, so that isn't a concern, just making sure I supply the minimal amount of information, even though the more information the better rule should apply.

I think I'll scan everything and send it to the Consulate with the a cc for her with the originals. Those are documents I may need in the near future and I really don't want them to be half a world away waiting for a consulate to arrange a time frame for review. I don't know that I will need them, but I don't feel comfortable with that information out of my sight.

I guess I'll keep copies and have them notarized. Just in case this takes longer than anticipated andf I may need them for some reason. I don't know why I would, but I just don't like original not being in my possesion.

It probably goes back to my parents being relocated from my birth state to another state. When I tried to enter into athletics in my new state they always requestd original copies of my Birth Cerificate. Different state has diffferent laws than the state I resided in, causing us to get multiple "official birth certificates" . Eventually it became "show us the original and give us a copy" worked. That may be why I am so cautious about original documents.

re: I think I'll scan everything and send it to the Consulate with the a cc for her with the originals

I truly hope you aren't suggesting to email 'everything' to the Consulate. It won't work.

If you are thinking to mail documents to the GUZ IV unit, mostly that doesn't work, either (exception - Packet 3 stuff) as GUZ IV doesn't keep stuff, and won't keep stuff, prior to interview day. SHE is required to 'hand over' much, on interview day, both to the documents pre-screener human and to the Visa Officer. They do keep stuff, submitted on interview day, after interview day...

ok - but - bear in mind -

any documents NOT in the 'list of stuff to return' in the OF-169 -

IF you 'send them' to GUZ IV, prior to interview day,

is no assurance, at all, that the documents will make it into the casefile at GUZ IV.

There's some notice floating around on the GUZ IV website about this (I think in the FAQ sections?)

so - anything on yer I-134 - she is to hand it over, on interview day.

It's up to you to get it into her hands, prior to interview day.

If you have true concerns about this, wei ! Get to Guangzhou yerself, a week prior to interview day, hang out with her in Guangzhou, be there for interview day. Then it's 'from your hands to hers' on the morning of interview day, in the 'massed line-up' outside of the Consulate Annex.

Good Luck, whatever you decide to do !

I just wanted to chime in and say my fiance (UK citizen) had to obtain a police certificate from Singapore recently. It was somewhat expensive (not sure what he paid, just remember he wasn't pleased) but he received the certificate within 6 weeks of mailing his forms. Not sure if that's helpful or not!
