Per the article

"MANILA, Philippines - A British man who went to the Philippines to propose to a woman he met in an Internet chat room was stabbed to death by her jealous lover Sunday, police said.John Lorne McDonald's would-be bride, Nanqueen Romero, 31, also sustained multiple wounds after being attacked by her Filipino lover, police said in a statement.

McDonald organized a party at Romero's home to ask for her hand in marriage, police said, but it was not clear if she had told him about her Filipino boyfriend, Anselmo Locastales, who turned up and attacked the couple.

Locastales is on the run, police said.

The British Embassy could not be reached Sunday and no personal details about McDonald were immediately available.

Impoverished Philippine women often use matchmaking websites to find foreign husbands in the hope of escaping the country for a better life."

There are similar stories on ABS-CBN...I just browsed a few of them this morning. One was of a couple in Pittsburgh, CA (yep, you read it right) found dead in their home...an apparent murder suicide.

What we read above (posted by the OP) is not the first and won't be the last to end in tragedy...

It was not really germain to the story, thus superfluous commentary regardless of its merit as fact. Didn't hurt me in the least to point that out.

It was not really germain to the story, thus superfluous commentary regardless of its merit as fact. Didn't hurt me in the least to point that out.

No offense, but how can you say it wasn't germane to the story? Would this incident have occured if the british guy wasn't flexing his relative wealth to steal a girl from her impoverished existence? Would the guy have had a chance if the girl wasn't poor? Is it typical for women from more "well-off" families to search online for foreign husbands? If the honest answer is "No", then that superfluous commentary suddenly becomes very relevant.

In any case, this was a sad story. Not only because a man was killed, but moreso because another man will most likely spend the rest of his life in prison. Two lives were ruined because of a woman.

To be fair, not all poor women use matchmaking websites to find foreign husbands. And not all women who do use those websites are poor. I get that.

DaRoq I am not sure it is entirely the woman's fault although the brief article indicates she was playing the British gent while getting some on the side from her local lover. The local lover appears quite clearly to have been the knife wielding party, so I would have to conclude he committed the biggest wrong.

Love triangles exist under all manner of financial circumstances and we clearly don't know many facts from the OP. I have personal knowledge of what could be similar circumstances if I assume facts not in evidence in order to jump to a conclusion about the love triangle in the OP. I have also seen love triangles in real life, amongst persons geographically close and finances playing no role. I am not even certain we can conclude as the writer of the OP article does, if this woman was currently involved with the knife wielding suspect, although the article sensationalistically implies it.

You also appear to have assumed the British gent was wealthy, and that the gal was impoverished, although neither detail is in the article. Since the article clearly states there were no personal details regarding the Brit, seems like a big assumption, but you got it from the gratuitous last paragraph. Ditto for your assumption the female was impoverished.
