1. Filipinos (in my experience) will give their age on the day you ask them but will say 30 going 31...(as an example if they are close to their birthday).

2. Bisaya/Cebuano/ are separate languages of the same linguistic family. Separate and distinct from Tagalog, BUT with a lot of over-lap and common words.

-As for us Filipinos, when we are asked of our age, it's either we say our age at the moment or connotes like "I'll be turning 22 this year or I'll be 17 next month"...but more likely, those who lie about their age just don't want to get old soon!!..hehehe :bonk: Is Bisaya considered a seperate language from Tagalog or is it considered a dialect of Tagalog?

-Bisaya and tagalog are considered languages under "regional dialects"..here in the Phil, we have a lot of dialects...but to consider if what is our "National Language", our national langauage is Filipino(a langauge which is known to all Filipinos and it do contains regional dialect words which are understood by all)...hence;the word Filipino may refer to the following:

a. people inhabiting in the Philippines

b. National Language of the Philippines

c. one of the subjects taught in our school system

Echoes #1 of this post :) But we get really confused with this Bisaya & Cebuano thing. From what I know Cebuano is a term used for people living in Cebu but their dialect is called Bisaya. Like in Manila, we're called Manilenyos and we speak Tagalog. More to that are people living Iloilo they're called Ilonggos and in Negros they're called Negrense but BOTH speak Hiligaynon. :luv:

My wife is from Mindanao. She says she speaks Cebuano and that it is a Visayan dialect. She says Cebuano and Bisaya are basically interchangeable terms. In some of the remote regions the natives speak different dialects of Cebuano which she can not understand.

My Fiancée is also from Mindanao. SDS to be precise. Now, she INSISTS she speaks 'Bisaya' which odly enough is NOT the lingo facto of SDS...(Surigaoian, which is a dialect of Bisaya/Cebuano is) BUT she is from Tagbina, which oddly enough is a an area of about 40 square miles where everyone speaks Cebuano! So yep, you ARE CORRECT  !! Cebuano and Bisaya (Visaya) are interchangeable. People from Leyete, parts of Samar etc all speak what they call Bisaya...Which is Cebuano. There is a really great wikipedia entry on the languages of the Philippines including maps! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_the_Philippines

Yet another cool and interesting thing about the Phil's....over 130 languages. I have friends who speak Kampangan, Bohol, Ware-Ware...and of course the love of my life who speaks, Ceb....er, Bisaya! (and Tagalog, and English : )

I for one am glad about that English part. You know it is amazing. My wife's school has a higher percentage of students able to speak English than the Los Angeles schools do.
