Income taxes

I have a question for those who had already gone to the interview: It's about income taxes...As far as I know, they ask for taxes returns for the past 3 years. My fiancé thinks that he won't make up to 18,212 this year. Last year was incredibly well and he made much more than 18,212; 2008 wasn't a good year though.

In a few words, if he filed for the petition this year or the interview were before filing next year's tax return, only 2009,2008 and 2007 would be needed at the interview, therefore everything would be fine.

He's worried because he thinks this year won't be so good and someone told him that consulate pays attention to the most recent year, so if he filed the petition until next year it will be an issue because 2010, 2009 and 2008 tax returns will be needed. So we would have to wait until 2012!!

My fiancé doesn't have a relative or direct family who could be his co-sponsor. That's an issue too.

Is this true? Please, could someone explain me? We both need some clarification on this...

I haven't gone through the interview stage yet but what I know from lurking around these forums for way too long is that generally they do only look at your last year's tax returns. Does your fiance have any savings or assets that he could use to supplement his income? As for a co-sponser, I was under the impression that it didn't have to be a family member. Anyone can co-sponser you, under the conditions that your consulate allows them (most do) and that their income is enough to cover themselves, their family members, your fiance and you.

Hopefully that helps, good luck! :luv:
