Fiancee has recently required a court date for slandering on the internet will these legal issues interfere with the K-1 visa process

Just got started K-1 package received on the fifth of August that is all that has happened. What has happened is one lady said something about my fiancees family on fb and my fiancee retaliated and now the originating woman is suing my fiancee

On the face of that there shouldn't be a problem as a lawsuit does not mean she was arrested.

You should be concerned about her provoking people in this way.

BTW, sounds like a troll post.

Do people sue people over FB posts in the Philippines a lot? blink.gif

one of her uncles was elected to a local government position and that lady did not like it that he was elected to that position because she is also a local government seat holder and was slandering her family name and she just retaliated without thinking about the consequences first and from what i have been told that it will not even stand up in a court room because no one in the philippines uses FB to slander people. From what I hear from my fiancee that this is not the first time this lady has done this to someone who is trying to marry a foreigner. This lady(in which I do not know her name) owns a restaurant right across the street from my fiancee's parents house wherer she lives so she would know that I have been there just recently.

This is considered a Personal Injury lawsuit and it is not a crime. Basically, your fiance' "hurt someone's feelings" so they are entering a personal lawsuit. I think that would get laughed out of a court in the US, but I don't know the law in her country.

It's not a crimial act, so she should be fine.

"You don't marry someone you can live with, you marry the person you can't live without."

Received notice- I-485 has been transferred to the California Service Center 2-9-11.

3-11-11 - EAD production ordered
