Green card in mail

Hello,

I'm sure this must have been asked a zillion times, but somehow I haven't found a clear answer.. My wife entered the US less than a week ago on a CR1 visa. I'm sure I had read someplace that it is necessary to apply for a green card within than two months after arriving, but judging from what I'm reading now it seems the green card (conditional 2 year for CR1) is mailed automatically around two to three months after arrival. Is this correct? Or do we need to apply for one?

Your wife has already applied for a green card, that was the interview stage. Her application was approved and she was granted the Cr-1 visa. Nothing more to apply for. The green card will be mailed to you. You can check the status of your green card back on the USCIS website. It should say something like "green card production ordered"

PS - it can take up to 60 days to get the green card. In the mean time, regardless of what you put on the Ds-230 I suggest you have her head to the SSN office and get an SSN

That may be because somebody must have confirmed that their GC was lost in the mail. But your case is NOT like this. So, as canadian_wife said, wait for 2 months.

We had received it in 3 to 4 weeks time in the past, I think.
