I'm looking forward to getting hard floors (f'naar f'naar). We have carpet & it's gotten really gross in the dining area since Limita has been eating (and throwing) food. We have a giant tarp under her high chair & still a mess. The first order of remodeling business is new flooring.

Now that I think of it, all kinds of SPAGHETTI and PORK CHOPS remnants could end up between the cobblestone kitchen floor. Maybe I should rethink that.

Actually, a close friend and former boyfriend (the same guy who gave up toothpaste for a few months because he thought it was a scam and ended up needing some dental work as a result) lived in his childhood home, which still had shag carpeting from the 70s. It had lost a lot of its shag, and the result was very uneven carpeting that looked like it was alive. His dad, who owned the house, kept offering to replace the flooring, but my friend insisted that it did just fine and "covered the floor." It was actually quite gross! I guess not everything can be retro.

Here's a question: What happened to the fuzzy toilet seat cover?

OMG, my inlaws have that in the guest bathroom. And carpet! crying.gif I hate going there.

I asked Jon what percentage of bathrooms in the UK he thinks are still carpeted. Taking into account that he hasn't lived there for nearly 7 years and that almost everyone he knows has tile flooring now, his "game show" guess is 30%.

I don't know one single person in the UK with carpeting in their bathrooms or their kitchens. Where are these people?

That sounds about right. I remember finding maggots in the carpeting in the kitchen once in our place in Kentish Town. I gagged and nearly vommed. I had recurring nightmares for weeks that the maggots were coming to get me.dead.gif

I cannot unsee this. crying.gif

My parents have carpet in one of their bathrooms as my Mum really likes it but they replace it nearly every year so it always looks spotless. Also male guests are directed to use the other bathroom with tile on the floor. Apparently that does a lot to keep things clean.

I have come to the incontrovertible conclusion that I need another me, or two, at work. True, I have minions that I have been delegating to. They are, however, all of a higher grade and all as useless as a chocolate teapot.

I'd like to know how I got all of the responsibility (and it is a LOT) and the ensuing stress, with little of the reward? I'd also like to know how my would-be minions remain in gainful employment?

The one good thing to come out of this past week is that I was too busy to catch the snark-fest that was election week

UGH! I know what you mean. In the pecking order here, I'm nominally number two but it's me who gets the most work and has to give the most direction. We have a new employee who is taking over from someone who is being phased out for general incompetence. The new employee is great but the old one is a pain in the #######. He has to train her (the new one) but he is being obstructive and flat out lying to her about tasks and information she will need to do the job when he finally leaves in two weeks. We're thankful he agreed to stay around to train but he's making life hard for all of us in the interim.
