Green Card and Egyptian Army

Sorry Amy I haven't dealt with kids with dual citizenship and the Egyptian Military. I asked my husband and he agrees with your husband and said that it's a law that those with dual citizenship would not be taken because they can't guarantee their loyalty if a war broke out. Sorry SamOnline you were correct about this part regarding dual citizenship.

I asked him about the man that was taken at the airport recently for clarification. He explained to me that the airport in Egypt has a military office in it. That the man was 25 years old and was not a dual citizen but was a green card holder for the US with a wife and two kids here. The Egyptian Military took him at the airport because of the unresolved military issue and he is currently serving in the same military base my husband served at. So they can be taken if they are green card holders but not as an American citizen.

Hubby says if you want him to find out for sure he can call the officer in the military that he knows and ask him. It might take a couple of days to get the information back to you. He also said to mention that in 18 years the rules might change by the time the kids have to deal with the military there.

They wont take dual citizenship and they dont take people who are an only child. I know this because Taha went and got his military papers a few months ago to say that he didnt have to serve. Because I didnt want to take a chance of me planning on going there and then they deciding they wanted him in before I got there. And as far as your kids are concerned with the dual citizenship it wont matter with the military there.

My husband had quite an issue when he went to get his certificate of free to leave the country after he got his visa.

All because he did get recalled to the military almost 10 years before but never got notification of it, so he did not go. He has lived at the same house and had the same address all his life, but the papers never got to him.

After a hefty fine (yes, over 1k us dollars), mandatory 1 day jail time, lawyer's fees, etc... he finally got the certificate to leave Egypt.

He said that he could have just gone on and not worried about it, but they would have caught him IF he should ever wanted to go back to Egypt. And that was a repercuation we did not want to face.

Don't mess with the Egyptian military, they'll get you back sooner or later!!
