Worried about I-864

My wife sent our I-130 package to the chicago lockbox so now the wait begins.

With the help of this site we are trying to do as much prep work as possible for all the stages we still have to come (what fun!)

Everything seems to be okay but for one thing I am worried about and it is this that I hope you guys can help me with:

Last year my wife only worked for a short period in the US (she is the USC). In january she came here to the UK with me for a period of 5 months and it was during this time that we became married. She did not file a federal tax return last year, I do not really understand the US tax system. She says that because she did so little work and was unemployed for probably 10 moths that it was not necessary, she knows that she does not owe anything and she does have the W-2 (whatever that is).

My wife's father will be our co-sponsor and we will be living with my wifes parents for probably the first year after moving there. She says that it was okay that she did not file the tax return, but as I just do not understand the US tax system, will this be a problem?

Thanks

Andy

She is correct. If she makes less than 'certain amount' based on her filing status, she is exempted to file the taxes in the U.S.

Having said this, if I were she, I would have filed the taxes every year for a clean image with the IRS and it would be helpful if you later want to pull IRS tax transcripts for whatever reasons.
