Two Translation Questions

Ok, we're at the end of the road here! Interview's in a few weeks and I was double checking things and suddenly realized something. I heard that ALL documents have to be translated but... The police certificate is in Japanese but it also says not to open it before the interview. So I'm assuming that's ok to not have translated?

Also, my fiance is working on translated his birth certificate himself but I'm worried whether or not they'll accept it if he's the translator. Do we need to hire someone? Thanks

The instructions are on the US Embassy website. They specifically say NOT to break the seal on the police certificate or they won't accept it. Read the first paragraph at the top of the page regarding translations.

Birth records have to be translated.

Anyone fluent in both English and Japanese can translate a document. They just have to certify that they are competent to perform the translation.

I am guessing the Japanese police certificate is written in English because the envelop indicates it is specifically for the US embassy.

Whether my guess is right or not, it doesn't need to be translated.

I translated my birth certificate myself, but it didn't raise a red flag.

i translated the birth cert by myself. it was not hard.

you can download already translated fill in the blank files from the TOKYO embassy website!!!

for the PCC you don't do anything. do not open it or anything.

i THINK the documents do not really have to be translated since it is the country of origin. but i am not sure about tokyo.

we translated ours to be safe though.
