Hey,

My husband has been in the U.S for 2 weeks, on the DS-230 questions 43A and 43B he checked yes he wants thew Social security administration to issue a card and number. My question is how long does it take to receive one by mail and would it have been faster if he checked no and went to to the

SSA to apply for one or it makes no difference???

You can go to the nearest SSA office and get one.

The DS-230 route to get the SSN is unreliable. Go to your SSA office and get one, he should have it within 2 weeks after you go to their office

He went to the office and explained the situation they said he should get it by the 17th if not he needs to go back to the office.

Then after the 17th he should go back to the office. I see your POE was fairly recent, they do need time to enter his entry into their system.

I'd go back and just simply apply for a new card (not mention the DS-230 at all)

^^Agree.

I applied for mine 3 weeks following my POE. I mentioned nothing about the DS-230. Just provided them with my birth certificate, passport and filled in application. ( SSN Application )

I had my card 6 days later.
