How to Amend or Correct Info on DS-156

Hi, this might be helpful for some of us who are in the stage of filling out our DS forms that are needed for the interview. I've been asked by couple of VJ members on how to amend or correct the forms once they have been printed. One thing that we're all concerned about is the 2D Barcode on both page 1 and page 3.

I did some research and found this statement on two embassies' websites:

"The information that you submit is NOT stored anywhere. It is also NOT submitted to the Embassy electronically. It is ONLY used to generate a barcode."

Sources:

http://london.usembassy.gov/electronic.html

http://seoul.usembassy.gov/ds_156.html

Although I browsed through the Manila website, there's no mention of the above statement. So correct me if I'm wrong to assume that the statement quoted above MAY BE applicable for US Embassy Manila too.

So, taking the info above, the old information (the original one you filled out that has error/s on it) is not stored electronically anywhere. Meaning, if you made errors in filling out your DS-156 form, if you want to amend or correct it, it is possible (and easier too) to just fill out another DS-156 form online. The system will generate another barcode for you and you need to print this new set of of forms.

If you think it will be easier to just edit the PDF file than re-doing it, well the editing capability is disabled on it.

But I was also thinking what if it was MINIMAL error (like: has more space in between letters, or maybe a punctuation, or a letter missing), what are we supposed to do? For this, I need help from those who are done with their interviews. Have you ever tried correcting it with a pen? :help:

Thanks VJ!
