how early can NVC documents be requested?

Hello Everyone, we are new to the site and it has been very informative so far and a great way to connect with other couples in the same situation!! Thanks to everybody for their efforts!!

We are still early in the process, received NOA1 just a month ago. Some of the NVC shortcuts on this site advise that we get all the documents ready now for NVC before the NOA2 is approved. I just wanted to confirm, because documents like the police report are quite expensive. Can I request them now, or wait until the NVC requests for it. I'm just afraid that they will want a more up to date version of it and that later I would have to do it twice.

you need to wait until you get the approval and your papers get to nvc ...then get everything ready then ..because the police background check paper get expired...so you need to wait till you get the approval

police certificate? Those have a 'validity' of 1 year, but that varies by US Consulate.

Strongly suggest you 'get it' or 'apply to get it' on the day that you KNOW about the I-130 approval, NOA-2.

The flipside of waiting, is that you have some time to save up for the fees.

Darnell, I liked your phase "on the day that you KNOW about the I-130 approval" :-)

OP, since you have received your NOA1 a month ago, please wait another 2 to 3 more months (one month before your KNOWN I-130 approval) and get the PCC.

1. email notification or

2. uscis status portal update or

3. postal notification or

4. result of USC calling into USCIS, asking for casefile status.

As Darnell said, in most consulates PCC is valid for 1 year. You have to make sure the elapsed time between the PCC issuance date and the Consulate interview date is less than 1 year. Also, please check with Manila consulate as well just to make sure 1 year or 6 months is their cut-off.

As per the US Embassy in Manila: "For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is valid for one (1) year from the date it was issued". Not sure about the Police Certificate. Also my wife have never been/live outside of The Philippines.

Then you should be all set. The way you cruise, I have a feeling that your entire immigration journey will be faster.
