I Just read that they are closing or have closed the US consulate in Juarez for security purposes. They will be rescheduling interviews and there is no timeline for re-opening. I really hope that they make provisions for Immigrant visa processing in other embassys. Anyone have more info?

When they closed the Bangkok Embassy from May 14 to May 24 this year because of the political strikes and clashes, it has really screwed up the interviews. It used to be two weeks from Packet 3 in to interview done. It is now 8 - 10 weeks from Packet 3 received to sending an interview date out. No one has received an interview date yet so we don't know how far out the interview is after it is scheduled.

They said 1,400 interviews were affected by the closure. Just thought you might like some cheery news.

Good luck.

When Rio closed in April, we got our new interview day the day after they reopened (for less than a month later), but they were closed for hazardous weather conditions (flooding & mudslides), not for security issues. They also only were closed for two days.

Here is the latest: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38479237/ns/world_news-americas/

I think we are just going to have to take a "wait and see" approach. There is no way to know how long the consulate will be closed or how it will affect visa applicants (other than the obvious delays). I think the K-1 applicants will probably be in a better position when the consulate re-opens because of their "open invitation" for interviews (assuming your invitation letter had been mailed pre-closure).

All in all, if there was some new security threat or something like that, or if this closure will improve security, even though it is heartbreaking to think that many visas will be delayed, I would much rather that and have everyone make it in and out of Juarez alive with their loved ones.

Well it is very dangerous down there in Mexico now so I understand it. It can't be any longer than people waiting years for interviews in Ghana! I hope you get one soon!

I personally wish they would process fiancee visas in Merida Yucatan Mexico! Nice city, flights out to Florida easy as pie, no border drug problems! Plus it would bring some nice money into the area!
