Applying for 2 Visas at a time?

Hello everyone!

I'm just starting out on my K-1 journey and I'm excited to get it all moving!

I'm currently in the US on a B-2 Visa and right now. I'm wondering if its possible for me to file the papers to extend my B-2 at the same time as we file the first steps of my K-1?

Is it possible to stay in the country while you do the K-1 process?

Did you meet your fiance after you moved to the US on the B-2 Visa? If so you likely do not need to file a K-1... just get married and apply for adjustment of status while you are still in the US. The Visa is to get you there so you can marry, but if you are already there and entered on honest terms then you don't need it as far as I know. IF your relationship was pre-exisiting prior to your Visa then I think you can go ahead with the K-1 Visa while there, but not both at the same time. I am not certain though so look out for a confirmed response.

Extension of stay for Canadians, as CBM said, is difficult to get. Your reasons to stay in the US must go WAY beyond simply wanting to stay for your boyfriend.

I agree with the other post, if your relationship with your fiance started after you arrived then you can simply marry and file for AOS. And as far as I know, applying for 2 different visa's is fine. There have been other people that have applied for the visitor visa while their k1 was processing, and some were approved and others were not.

For those others who were denied the visitor visa, can this affect their K1 process?

No, a denied tourist visa will not affect a K-1 visa

This is where it's at. The posters who said you may not need either are correct, but not for the reason they listed. It's not the question of whether you started your relationship before or after POE, but the real question is: at the time of coming into this country, did you have immigrant intent? If you can answer NO, then you can get married, and just apply for AOS.
