Ok, that's how we feel about diamonds, but did you have to ruin everyone else's fun?

i sense your wedding ring getting smaller

? I have this pet peeve about diamonds, because they're overvalued by just a few companies and most of them that make it over here have been used in bloody African wars, AFAIK. Canadian ones aren't, but they're still overvalued.

I think if someone bought me a diamond it would be because they didn't know anything about me or what I believe in.

But I know, they are pretty.

The article Rey posted shows how we have all been duped into thinking diamonds are a necessary marriage custom in actually very recent times and by advertising industry execs. Which kind of makes me feel gross.

As an American you should indeed feel awful. But I know how you feel about diamonds, so I forgive you. :P

Alex, you have to remember that if Rey buys the ring, it will have brazilian diamonds, so go ahead and pick the biggest one you can find :hehe:

The test of courage comes when we are in the minority. The test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority.

Luckily she is aware of the real value of diamonds (Nothing). So....

And the Brazilian diamond prices are ruled by the foreign market. And guess who is the largest buyer (90%) of the Brazilian production of diamonds?

If you guessed DeBeers, you are right.

David chose my ring and got me exactly what I wanted, without even asking me anything. We have this friend here in Brazil, that we met online... her dad sells rings. So when David came to Brazil to visit me for the first time, she was waiting for him at the airport in São Paulo to give him the ring.

It's simple, with a cute diamont, and beautiful... I wouldn't want any other ring.

It's like this one but with an encrusted diamond.... plaingoldband.jpg

I'm very proud of my engagement ring and it has a very special meaning to my husband and I. Even though it might be worthless moneywise. Everytime I look at it, it brings me back to the time we got engaged and our wedding, and I feel that intense feeling again and again. Of course I don't need it to remind me of our deep love for each other, but it's a symbol of our commitment. :luv:

I didn't read the whole article, but it seems to me that this marketing idea is the same as they do on Christmas with Santa Claus and gifts. Everyone knows that the gifts are not the true meaning of Christmas, but that's what people care about in the end! And salespeople and businesses all around the world are really greatful for it!

Anyways, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
