I have a Interview DATE!!!!!

I called to ask about a extention for my I-129-F ( passed the date )They said they would extend it at the interview no worries, And since I had some one on the phone asked about my date---ta da! Sept 15! That rocks, but I will not tell anyone at home until I have that paper staing the date in my hands, just my vj buddies! I had already called this week on Tuesday and no date at that point- so I guess someone is working!

So now since the date is a Friday, does that mean a Monday issue? Do I have to stay all weekend? I'll keep you posted on when I actually get the letter- I still can't believe it!

P.S.- All those emails and still no response- whatever!

May 6 - Received an email response saying things were progressing normally but that waiting times might be longer

Congratulations on the interview date. I've heard of some people (Montreal) coming back the same day to pick up the visa and others having it mailed Expresspost.

I'm not sure what I'd do with a Friday interview. Possibly stay until Monday? Think of it as a vacation? Be ready to cross into the States immediately after getting the visa? This would mean parking the car in a safe hotel garage for the week-end. Too many break-in stories.

An alternative is to go back home, wait for the Expresspost, and then leave for the States.

Congrats!! Most of the readings I have seen on here, have to wait till monday or go the express post route. Or you can try to chat up the officer and sweet talk your way to getting Friday, as one VJ'er did just a few weeks back, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Here is a quick question: Can person call in advance for an appointment with their Embassy (i.e. before they are told to call to make one) and simply cancel and re-make an appointment until they are ready to attend?

I was thinking that since a person can wait over 1 month to get an appointment, that what if a person calls in advance to make an apt. in the hope that once they receive the go ahead to call the Embassy, ta da, they already did and have just saved some valuable time because they already have an apt.

So, possible or not possible? Advisable or inadvisable? I think I still living in the fantasy that I can somehow make this process go quicker then want my mind is having a very hard time accepting.

They give you an appointment, not the other way around. This is at the Package 4 stage. If you check the Embassy Info (top of this page) an interview in Montreal takes 2-4 months to get, after the NVC (National Visa Center) stage, and after receiving (and answering) Package 3. No need to live in fantasy-land, just read up.

GOT THE LETTER TODAY- It is official! Sept 15 here I come, question - train or plane? What do you recommend?

As well, kids don't come right ? If they are under 16? Thanks for all the support!

P.S. How freaky that the letter was actually dated on the day I called... :dance:

Train or plane? Well, whatever is more affordable/more convenient, I guess. The train station is VERY close to the consulate (walking distance). There are a few hotels nearby.
