Hello,

I have checked my status on USCIS website today and according to the website on June 16, 2010, USCIS mailed a notice requesting additional evidence or information regarding my N400 APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION. I have not received anything from USCIS except for my biometrics appointment letter. I am confused...so did that RFE letter get lost or they meant the biometrics letter? What do I need to do next? Do I need to call the office on Monday to have them send me another RFE letter? Thanks for your help!

that's exactly it. it says it's and RFE, but really it's the fingerprints.

Since they actually don't review your application until your interview, the RFE notice isn't for lack of evidence that you need to provide - it is for the fingerprints you need to have done before they can do the next step of the process - security checks. The wording of the notice is very strange because they are trying to use one notification for a variety of different purposes and sometimes, the wording just doesn't 'work'. This is one of those times. You will be receiving your biometrics notice any day now.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Got it...THANKS guys! So does everyone get the RFE notice?

Yes, everyone gets the RFE notice and it is always for biometrics. It is very confusing - unnecessarily so as it would be a very easy thing to state a biometrics notice has been mailed. Ah well!

My advice is to stay far away from the USCIS status site, leads to gray hair, wrinkles on your face, and excessive needless worry. Not required to log into that site, strictly optional.

yes!!! just got my biometrics appointment in the post, very happy! so just one question is my case still pending or does that RFE email mean my case is still suspended????

Your case will remain suspended until the biometrics results get back to USCIS from the FBI after you've been to your appointment. Usually, this happens within a day or two. If your online status does not change, you can call the FBI at 304-625-5590 a few days after your appointment and check. Have your A# ready when you call.

My wife's USCIS journey:

I-130 (IR1) Timeline

03-26-07 -- I-130 sent to VSC

09-20-07 -- Permanent Resident

N-400 Timeline

09-20-10 -- N-400 sent to Dallas lockbox

09-24-10 -- Check cashed

09-27-10 -- NOA received

10-07-10 -- Biometrics letter rec'd (appointment for 10/19/2010)

10-15-10 -- Biometrics done (walk-in at Alexandria, VA facility)

10-23-10 -- Another Biometrics letter rec'd (1st fingerprint set unusable according to FBI; appointment for 11/19/2010)

10-25-10 -- 2nd Biometrics done (walk-in at Alexandria, VA facility)

10-26-10 -- Called FBI: Second fingerprint set okay

11-20-10 -- Yellow letter received

01-26-11 -- Interview letter received

03-01-11 -- Interview (Civics test passed, but "Decision cannot yet be made" -- Docs missing)

does that mean everyones case is suspended up until the biometrics appointment?

Well, yes. How else do you read the sentence "Your application or petition will be held in suspense during that time" that appeared in the email you got?
