So are the requirements the same for the I864 the same for all embassies?? Do they focus mainly on your current income or the last 3 yrs of taxes?? In other words...if your tax returns show that you didn't meet the poverty line, but your current job shows that you meet it, will they be ok with that? Thanks for any pointers & help. And does it matter if the job is new?

Monica,

According to the NVC the current requirement is for you to send in a copy of your most recent tax return and they focus on that. However, you do have to put your last three years' financial information on the I-864. If your earlier returns are below the 125% of the poverty line then you can send in copies of the last 6 months of your pay stubs and even bank statements if you feel that will help. All of this is outlined in the instructions for the I-864. When you get to the NVC stage they will review your documents prior to scheduling an interview and notify you if they believe you will be required to have a co-sponsor. Ultimately it is the consulate's final decision to accept or not accept.

I suggest checking out the monthly NVC threads. I know the May and June ones have an incredible amount of information and the shortcuts to getting through the NVC quickly. (Hint: when they tell you to wait 4-6 weeks...DON'T!) Also, read up about it in the Wiki section here on VJ. There are the shortcuts there and templates too. All the info you need for NVC is there and I suggest reading up on it after your I-130 is filed and you are waiting for the approval.

This is probably a stupid question, but i want to be sure. My future brother-in-law said he would be a co-sponsor if needed...i was told it wouldn't be a good idea for the I134 through the Casa embassy....but what about the I864??? I'm looking for a good enough job to cover everything, but I'm not sure how they will take it being new income, etc.
