Taking a break from RUB forum

As I posted yesterday, we completed the ROC biometrics and should be getting the 10-year Green Card very soon. In a way that ends our visa journey. It's too early to look at citizenship, so this is it with Uncle Sam for quite awhile.

So, I'm going to take a break from active posting on the RUB forum. I've heard enough about Gary, Alla and Vermont to last a lifetime (BTW, if you want a good laugh, go to the UK forum and search on Gary & Alla). Slim chased Mox off the forum (I say that smiling happily). And things seem pretty slow these days. A good time to go on a sabbatical.

I owe VJ a lot, especially helpful was the Guides and the subject forums like CR-1, NVC, Removal of Conditions, etc. I figure with the many tricks and workarounds I learned, I probably saved 3 or 4 weeks off the process.

I posted on RUB for fun and frolic...it's definitely been entertaining. I will say that having gone CR-1 versus K-1, I've felt a bit out of the mainstream as most of you went Fiancee Visa. And I've not be one to cheer the merger of the Russian Forum into RUB. I guess I just don't care what's happening in Kiev or Odessa. It did make for good arguments over which country has the best women. The answer is unequivocally Russia!

Happy Trails.

Thanks VV, enjoy your time off. It's always nice to have counterpoints to all positions so one corner of our discussions will be missing for a while.

Congratulations on the new stage of your "Journey" and good luck.

As to which women are better, I figure I got it both ways--my Fiancee was born on the Russian side of the line during Soviet times but was living on the Ukraine side when the wall fell. :D

Be good, be happy!

You will be missed, VV. Make sure you stop in from time-to-time to say hello and let us know how things have been going. Good luck with the rest of your VJ!

Slim chased Mox off the forum

No I didn't. Mox takes time off to deal with things in his real life and then when he's bored he comes back here. He and I had a minor disagreement on some issues and that was that.

I'll be honest; I didn't really like it either. But, most UB folks were coming to the R forum anyway and, in truth, most of the folks coming here are either ethnically Russian or lived in Russia so the only thing that's not really "Russia-specific" is questions about the differences in embassy policies. The culture is similar enough that they should be here.

Plus, they add a whole lot more than they take away! (Unlike some other foreigners....)

Edited - Totally forgot to address the "who has the hottest women" statement. Uhh... if they're all "the same" then aren't they all hot?

Yeah, just an update on getting caught....

I went to court this past week and all charges were dropped except one. They kept my gun (gonna destroy it) and hit me with a suspended jail sentence, a $250 fine + court costs, some community service and a year of probation. I may have to undergo some counseling based on the outcome of an upcoming assessment.

All-in-all, not too bad, I guess. Could've been a whole lot worse and at least I'm now free to get on with my life. Home again too, so that's good. Boy did my wife really miss having me here. I spent almost all day yesterday doing "home jobs" followed by "husband jobs" after that.

I see several of you R guys posting about not liking the merger - and never really understood it. I usually say Eastern Europe anyway, because I just don't see any stark differences. Lots of subtle stuff, but like you say, most of Belarus and a good bit of Ukraine are russified, so it made sense to me. Any one who doesn't want to read Minsk specific stuff (for example) can just ignore it. Honestly, I don't even mind the drive by stuff. Keeps the discussion interesting, and we all come together to critique the goofy drive by posters.

Seems to me that there needs to be enough tension and conflict on a forum to keep the non visa specific posts interesting, but not so much as to turn members off. I thought the addition of UB to RUB just made it official, and for awhile we did a good job of balancing the different personalities. We did go some distance off the reservation recently, and I would like to see things retro back a bit.

Mox says that he did intend to leave permanently, due to several VJ specific issues. Constant baiting by a particular poster (not Slim) was a minor thing. The TOS circus contributed, as did some of the other repetitive themes that bore some of us. Some of you may recall that mox was pursued through VJ by a real idiot (and several sock puppets) with constant baiting before, so he would no doubt find a repeat of that activity a total snooze-fest. He did say "never say never" though.

Yeah, did I miss a thread?

As to the RUB merger, I agree that the only part that isn't common among us is anything embassy specific. Even then, there is quite a bit in common since we are still talking about US Embassy treatment of FSU citizens. Of course, there is some city specific discussion but that happens within Russia, too.

I think that the merger was good if simply because it brought the forum up to critical mass where posting is more interesting since responses are quicker and more varied.

To VV: congrats on your success in the visa process and good luck.

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

He'll be back. Mox does this from time-to-time. He goes off and does real life stuff, posts on other forums and just generally avoids VJ for a while. Once he's cooled down over whatever was bugging him and starts to miss us (yes, he does miss the crazy antics of the RUB forum!) he'll be back. He'll lurk for a while then one day you'll see a post or two from him. The next day you'll see 12. About three months later he'll get bored of us again and go back on hiatus.

Start the timer. He'll be back this fall.

Remember when I disappeared for about a month?

That's because I was in jail. (Unlike Aspen, we don't have internet in our county jail here. Poor Charlie Sheen.) Way back on Easter weekend I was arrested for "allegedly" shooting my gun up in the air several times at a party across the street from my house. I was charged with a felony and four misdemeanors, among which were having a weapon under disability and two counts of aggravated menacing. I spent most of April locked up then May on house arrest at my father's house. I finally went back to court last week and when the witnesses (aka the "victims" of my agg. menacing) didn't show up, most of the charges were dismissed.
