Police Certificate before NOA 2

Hi I read on one of the guides that it would be advisable to start the Police certificate process before the NOA 2 approval, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this or even if you really can before you have a NVC case number. I am the petitioner so my husband (UK) would be the one to apply for it. Any advise about how to go about doing this would be much appreciated? Or an answer on whether or not he can request a PC while waiting for a NOA2...

I would suggest you get the police certificate(s) after receiving the NOA2. I asked my wife to go get her's after NVC received the AOS payment (March) and it took her 45 days to get it (Vietnam certificates). She would have been over here in May have I asked her to get it after NOA2. As it stands, she got in on May 10th and sent it directly to NVC (overnight) and was delivered on May 20th and our case was closed on June 4th. I am now hoping to get a July interview.

I would get it ahead of your NOA2 and your spouse send it along with the other documents that you need from them (birth cert and all the other stuff related to your case and some signed DS230 pages...etc.)

A country's police certificate is dependent on another country's immigration process. You ought to be able to get a PCC whenever you want from your country's authorities. A PCC is used for many other reasons beside just immigrating to US. You can get your UK PCC in 2 business days. UK isn't Vietnam so it won't take 45 days. Here's the link to get it. http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp Since you can get it in 2 days, you can get it now. Or you can get it after you get your NOA2. Doesn't really matter. But be sure that in some cases PCC expires. The average is one year. But it's unique to each country.

You definitely don't need NVC case number to get a PCC. You just need your passport. If you don't have a passport, get a UK passport first then you can apply for the PCC.

This makes no sense at all. Your wife got the PCC after NOA2. You hoped you suggested exactly that. So she would've been here earlier? Lol. Something's really amiss here, bruv. Edited June 11, 2010 by IndigoSkies

IndigoSkies my husband will be needing a police certificate down the road and I'm also trying to prepare I went to the website you provided and downloaded the pdf and It says

Police Certificate Application Guidance Notes

These notes apply to those applicants wishing to obtain an immigration visa for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africaor the United States of America

And the questions it asked were about new zealand and ireland lol.......is that correct even if he's trying to immigrate from Canada to U.S. ?

Minted, I'm assuming your husband lives in Canada. He won't have a police record in UK unless he lived in UK for more than 6 months. Tell your husband who is in Canada to contact RCMP to get a police certificate or Canadian equivalent. Peruse this link http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm

Not sure of what area of Canada you are in but I was in the Niagara Region and easily obtained my police certificate from the local RCMP office on a walk-in basis for free.

I actually talked to my husband and he said when he first got hired at his job years ago he had to get a police certificate....he went down to the police station and it took around 2 days! lol I was like hellloooo im trying to get some help from people and you already know. Share the knowledge! lol

Well that sounds easy enough!

Just make sure wherever he gets it from it notes that Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or the national criminal records repository was searched using his name and date of birth.
