I'm sure the typical trouble-makers will have all sorts of fun with this, but honestly there's nothing much about the US that interests me as a holiday destination. Your Florida is full of fat tourists and loud snotty children, many of whom are from my own country, not to mention the now-polluted ocean. Hawaii is an over-priced tourist trap and full of drug dealers. Even the islands are nothing but tourist traps these days, the interior is too hot, and the North is a bit close to Canada for my tastes, no offense. I am told there are some nice areas in California, such as Catalina, but since I'll be living nearby anyway it hardly makes for a memorable honeymoon. Yes I'm sure there are some lovely places in your country, but I don't care to deal with the travails that one must endure to enjoy them.

Ah yes, the American answer to every problem. whistling.gif

Julian, I first read your stuff on VisaJourney last night and I've been wondering since...why on earth are you agreeing to move to America if you take such issue with its people and places? From what I saw on Melissa's blog, she quite enjoyed living with you in England. I hope you don't take offence to this question, I'm just curious. I don't really care what choices people want to make with their lives, but I would be interested in hearing why you agreed to move the USA.

No offense taken, since I'm the Malaysian beneficiary here, not the USC. Frankly though, your answer is quite appalling. If I were the US citizen, I'd be shocked. Btw, my question was directed at Melissa. But thanks for answering on her behalf, I guess.

Your picture and hope that 'some good old boy will modify it for you against a brick wall' is all I need to know about you Johnny boy. If you care to address the main topic, please do. But if you're just here to stir up trouble, please find a different place. Perhaps you and Alla can find a nice quiet corner to trade insults.

I'll be spending my honeymoon in Virginia Beach. Not what you'd consider the "classiest" of places, and it'll only be for 4 days, but it will be "memorable" because I'll be spending it with my new husband. Get some perspective, Julian. It's very arrogant, not to mention disrespectful to Melissa, to think you won't have a good time on holiday with your wife just because there might be other tourists around.

You're impossible, son. Really you are.

It's a simple answer, really: I'm doing it for Melissa. I know the trouble-makers would like you to believe otherwise, but I'm doing it for her, plain and simple.

Why not spend your honeymoon in Detroit then, maybe touring abandoned auto factories. As long as you are 'spending it with my new husband' it should be just as 'memorable' as Virginia Beach, shouldn't it?

Did you just really say that? I'm sure Melissa will be delighted to read this when she gets into work this morning.

Report yourself while you're at it. You're the one who threatened violence and de-railed this thread.

I think you should throw caution to the wind and honeymoon whereever you desire--after all, it's a once-in-a-lifetime event. Worry about all the bothersome bureaucratic nonsense afterwards. If you have trouble at a POE later--no problem, you didn't want to enter anyway.

I believe you. However, permit me to ask another question if you don't mind. From what I read, you have a great job in a family business that you are quite good at. It sounds like you have a pretty ideal life in the UK. Why not have Melissa move there, especially since you don't seem to like America all that much? Again, I'm not trying to argue with you, it just seems more logical to have Melissa move there.

Hi, Melissa here. I didn't know my question was going to get people so upset. I also didn't expect my fiance was going to post in this thread. I can't say sorry on his behalf, and he wouldn't want me to, but I do worry that people just don't understand his sense of humor.

To answer everyone's question, I am not moving there because I don't want to live in the UK. It was fine for six months, just about, but I couldn't settle in. I couldn't make friends with people very easily, because we were constantly moving between the city and country, and people didn't warm to me. I didn't like the weather very much in the fall and winter. I loved my year abroad in Bristol, but that was in a college environment. Moving there and being someone's wife is totally different. I am too happy in my life in California to leave again, and Julian agreed to come to me because he wants me to be happy. He saw how miserable I was in England and told me he wanted me to be wherever I was happiest, whether that was California or New York or Paris or wherever. Wherever it was, he would be there with me.
