Every now and then my dad will send me an envelope filled with clippings from the newspaper back home that he thinks I will enjoy - often a lot of comics, political commentary (from the Canadian viewpoint) and such. Every now and then he will put in something special - like a letter I wrote home when I was away working for the summer in Saskatchewan or a birthday card I made for my Mom when I was 5 years old star_smile.gif. Today I received another envelope stuffed with interesting cartoons and clippings - and a listing of auctions back home. That was fun but it made me realize how much I miss auctions - they don't have them here sad.gif. The thing that got me both laughing and crying at the same time is he also put in a Tim Horton's donut bag! Heheheheh - yep a donut bag (sorry Charles, it was empty!), but all the same it was such a fun surprise. tongue.gif

That's awesome! I'd love for someone here to do this for me once Im away.

maybe.... it just ended kind of weird and I am not sure where I stand with them now..

!! Omg Kathryn, that is too cute. And gave me a wonderful idea for a package I need to send to my parents. I have 2 jars of jam that my husband's mom made and I'm sending to them, but the box we happen to have to ship them is too big. I didn't want to send them a mostly empty box so was trying to think of some other things I could send to fill it up and make it a little nicer to receive. lol Thanks ;)

'Specially if you're chopped up nice and good! j/k!

Hey, question for you guys, I'm looking to buy a nice little GPS but I don't need anything fancy or crazy expensive. I'd like to keep it below 150$. I would also like the kind that 'talks' to me and tells me street names and not just how many feet I have to turn and stuff. Anyone using one that they love? I am looking at the Magellan 1440 4.3 I also like that size screen too, 4.3"

thanks for any and all input.

We're getting ready to go to WV and PA in a couple days! We'll be touring the Amish, and the country roads with all those quaint covered bridges, a couple of live theaters..and off to Hershey!! I can't wait...I think it's going to be a great trip!

Just so you know, the live theaters you're speaking of ( the ones in Lancaster anyway) are less than a mile from our house! It's too bad I'm not going to be here :(.

But have a great time! There's lots to do around here. BTW, make sure to check ahead of the bridges before you cross. Don't want to hit another car!

Awwww that would have been so great to meet you two! We'll be at the Sight and Sound Tues. afternoon for Joseph, and then going to another one that evening for Huck Finn!

And thanks for the tip of the covered bridges!! LOL...I don't think I would have thought of that.

Mine is a Magellan and we used it for getting across country. I seriously love the thing cuz it also tells you far enough ahead to get into the right lane so you dont miss your turns, didn't get lost once!

We have the Garmin Nivi 265wt Walmart has it for $128 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10543584&findingMethod=rr&

If u use BING.com, you can get an evern better deal!! GOTO bing.com on left tab, click on SHOPPING, on next page type in Garmin 265 and if ya see a MONEY symbol flowed by the words "cashback) ur eligible for a certain percentage back!! it can vary from 2% up to 30% for some stores!!! Sears has it for $129 plu s8-10% back in cash! With BING you dont get the $$$ back right away takes 45 days, BUT they will send u a cheque. As wel lBING $$ back program ends on JULY 31!~~~ I have used it a great deal! Just got back 30% on my shoes I bought at endless.com

back to the Garmin 265 WT. We have never gotten lost using it. It has free FM traffic updates which is only so-so! It will say no traffic, but then why I'm I going 5mph when the posted speed is 65? lol or it states there is traffic, when their isnt any!!

There is a 265T, but i belive the screen is a bit smaller, its price is lower as well

costco has the garmin 1350 for $129. I like buying my stuff at Costco as 1 has 90 days to return stuff with no questions asked and they add on an extra yr of warranty!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I like my Garmin nüvi 1350T, which was about $199 on Amazon when I got it. If you find a nüvi with a T at the end of the model number, it has a built-in, free-for-life traffic receiver built into the power cord, which can help route you around jams and accidents. Other models without the T may be able to get traffic information, but as a monthly subscription service.

Traffic information is dependent on being in an area with an FM traffic transmitter, and being on one of the roads covered by that traffic information. If you're between major cities, or on a random back street (sometimes even major streets get left out in favor of highways), the traffic information may not help you. But if you're on the highway that's covered, it's very useful info.

So my Hubby got a promotion to Full time and an award at work yesterday. He has only been working there for 2 months, so we are pretty happy....he can finally add me onto his medical benefits and I get to stop paying for prenatal care out of my pocket!! I only wish it had happened a few days earlier...I just had an appt on Monday that I am pretty sure that I will end up paying for. The billing clerk said that sometimes (but rarely) the insurance companies will cover from the first of the month so she said to wait till next appt and they will try to process the appt. *fingers crossed*
