I felt that earthquake pretty well.

Freaked me out a bit because I thought it was a simple shake, then the house kinda went in circles.

Glad I was sitting down. It was a 5.7

I think it was downgraded to a 5.4...

we felt it here too... I was kind of getting seasick...

me too, my stomach still hasnt quite settled down. Funny thing about it? I don't get motion sick anywhere else. Not on boats, in cars or in airplanes. Only sitting at my desk through earthquakes lol.

Yeah, it was downgraded.

I was looking at the list of recent earthquakes and they've been having a lot since then. Some are only 1.2 or so but they're only 10 seconds apart.

A bit freaky.

I hear that all the time. I often wonder how people can live along the eastern seaboard with hurricanes every year, or the midwest with tornados and hail storms, or the NE or other places where they have blizzards on a regular basis. Earthquakes happen here, usually minor ones. I didn't even notice the one yesterday. The big ones are once a century ordeals.

I was in Toronto when the earthquake hit there and everything started shaking.... plus a loud rumbling. Weird stuff.

Spoke with the GM of the hotel yesterday and received two free nights compensation. They were very apologetic and very nice about it. I will only give you the name of the hotel if you all come and visit me. lol

I'd agree. Now that I've felt a few of them, they make me uneasy but they have all been fairly moderate, and even though a 5.4 sounds big and scary, stuff barely moved. I'd be more terrified of my house being ripped off from over my head by tornado's. Blizzards didn't bother me I just hated having to drive in them, and I think I could live with a hurricane as well depending on where inland I lived.

That was one of my major concerns when I debated about moving! But we're 100 miles inland and Tim says there has been nothing really to worry about here. The last time there was significant damage was from Hugo in '89. (And I believe everyone's house is still standing) It was probably close to a really bad high wind storm that we get on Vancouver Island in the winter. ( A little flooding...maybe a tree falling over....and lots of wind and rain)

Then again...wasn't long ago that Ike sure surprised a few folk...

Hurricane Andrew in '92 was pretty wicked. I was visiting universities in my junior year of high school and in Atlanta at the time of that. They didn't think it would effect us at that point, but it was gnarly. My roomate freshman year in college was from Boca Raton and living there during the time. Some of the pictures I saw of it were absolutely devastating.

I feel a little sad... so the original plan was that only my parents were coming and I had resigned myself to that fact but I talked to my mom today and she had been talking to my little sister, trying to get her to come along to and she said no, she would rather hang out with her friends.. :( now part of me gets that.. she is 15 and in her world friends are the most important thing in her life.. but the other part of me is really crushed that she didn't want to come and spend time with me :(

Sorry to hear that Marilyn! :( My sister is 16 and I get the same from her. She's always too busy to talk to me and doesn't want to visit. She's all wrapped up in her little dramatic teenage social life. I just hope one day she will grow up and get over her selfishness! For your sake, I hope your sister does the same.
